Tesco shares price drops 22nd September 2014 2:25 PM
Yes, its amazing that the team should have fallen so short of the pace set by their leader! I think that perhaps one criticism that will hang over Sir Terry's leadership is that he did not hand the baton over cleanly to the next generation. Or that they did not receive it cleanly.

Think they dropped it and haven't been able to find it!

Heard on the News earlier that EE are to take on around 50+ stores following on from Vodafones announcement Friday to take on 140.

Hang on a sec, didnt both of these companies decide not to renew the contracts for phones4U to carry on reselling?

I accept that jobs have been saved etc, but surely this stinks?

When is your business no longer yours? 22nd September 2014 11:08 AM
This is a thorny issue.

When do beliefs turn into (unacceptable) prejudices? I think that discriminative practices always call for a business to become clear about its its service commitment.

A tiny proportion of fellow women colon hydro therapists will only work with women clients. Is this discrimination (I don't think so) or simply understandable & acceptable client selection on the part of the therapist? I hold to the latter view.

Some of my colleagues, again women, have up 40% of their clientele being men. In my practice, currently 25% of my clients are men.

Most of my women clients, by the way, do  pre-select to be treated by women therapists. Is that reverse discrimination? Surely not!

 ”

Hmm it does come across as discrimination but as your industry is obviously an intimate area i can get why this would be the case.

I think the whole race, religion and gender issue can get blown out of proportion to suit ALL ones arguments.

What i dont understand though is that you can have a National Black Police Association, or MOBO Awards, but put the word white in and you are racists?

“...

Will people buy? Will they be inspired to think the brand is competent?

Thats a point i hadn't thought of to be honest.

Is it a good idea to to use these king of marketing ploys?

I personally would have thought that the risk to brand name was to great to risk a gimmick like this.

Oh dear - it seems to just go from bad to worse for them with News breaking that they have now over estimated their profits by £250m !

4 execs have been suspend pending an investigation and shares have fallen by 10%.

What is going on? Seems that leadership team that Sir Terry Leahy left behind has gone just very slightly wrong.

Hamilton win - was it manufactured? 22nd September 2014 10:38 AM

Nope - he drove a great race to now lead the championship

Rosberg seemed humbled and keen to show his team spirit, but too little too late IMHO

Toto Wolff is quoted as saying he is eager not to allow the Championship to be won or at least affected by reliability and i really do hope that is the case as im looking forward to the last 5 races.

Its the most interesting the sport has been for a couple of years and yes Mercedes are dominating as Red Bull did for the last 4 years, at least the is a battle from the 2 Mercedes drivers and as yet the Team have not laid out any orders that will affect the Championship (that we are aware of anyway)

Absolutely cynical - this is a marketing ploy, pure and simple IMHO.

Contentious and bound to get picked up by the media - its a see through as glass!

Too many of these "accidents" flying around the 'net at the moment, frankly i'm bored of them.

(Off to make a coffee, feel a rant coming on)

ME !   Ha i got in first

It is odd, the main phone networks have had High Street chains for some time, so have been selling direct, and you're right, you tend to seem them clustered together. So it's not hard for a consumer to wonder in and out and shop around for the best deal, rather than go via a middleman like Phones 4U.

I suppose though they act like a broker to find you the best deal to save you wondering in & out of the main 4.

What would you rather do, spend an hour being hard sold by each of the main 4 or go in to Phones4u and have 1 salesman sell you the best product for your needs?

Ive actually just changed sims - walked into Carphone Warehouse, next door to Orange shop, gave them my requirements and 10 minutes later i had a deal with Orange, cheaper than going with Orange direct

Chew your way to make electricity? 17th September 2014 11:27 AM

Some clever people in Canada have built a chin strap that somehow converts the chewing action in to electricity. This they hope may be used to power hearing aids or other smaller devices.

Its in very early stages of development but seems with some tweaking that it could become a usable gadget in the future.

If you want to read the full article its here - BBC News

I'm going to invest in one for Steve. He chews gum pretty much all day. Wonder if they could adapt one for the hands? With his constant chewing and all of his forum posts he could power the office
