MH370 - 6 months on 8th September 2014 10:27 AM

6 months on from the disappearance of flight MH370 there is still no trace of the plane.

Very strange and i cannot comprehend how a modern aircraft can vanish without a trace, yet satellites can read the print off your newspaper from space

Cannot begin to imagine what the families must be going through. Bad enough that by now they must have accepted they will never be reunited with their loved ones, but to have no body, or be able to have a funeral to start the grieving process properly must be...., well no idea what word would cover it

Motorcycle crash video released. 5th September 2014 4:31 PM

This caught my eye on the news. A motorcyclist filmed his last ride as he collided with a car at 97mph, killing him and obliterating the car and his bike.

I will not post a link to the video as it is very graphic but if you search the MSN website then it will be on there.

I did watch the video and you can tell the biker was travelling at a ridiculous speed and over took a car just before the fatal collision. You cannot see the car that hit him until a split second before impact.

What amazes me is that the driver of the car was prosecuted earlier in the year. No doubt the Police will have other reasons for bringing the prosecution, but here are some very revealing stats i have just worked out -

At 60 mph you are travelling at 88 feet per second (1.67% of a mile per second), at 97 mph you would be doing 142 feet per second, (or 2.7% of a mile per second) that's a whopping difference of 54 FEET per second or 1.02% of a mile per second

Certainly makes you think when you speed how much distance you travel in the blink of an eye.

Dog with a penchent for socks? 5th September 2014 3:58 PM

Just been reading about a dog that got sick in the USA, was taken to the vets who x-rayed it and found it had eaten 43.5 socks!

I knew dogs like to chew, but to eat them too? Also not being funny but thats 22 pairs of socks gone missing - i dont think i even own that many - surely you'd notice that many were "lost"

Anyway, with an op to remove the mass of material, dog was home next day.

Calais and the Migrants 5th September 2014 1:21 PM

Whilst i accept they often find immigrants and illegal workers, they are often released and told to report to a local police station until the papers are sorted to remove them from the Country.

Guess what - they abscond again and dont report to the Police and the time, energy and effort to finding them is wasted!

Its a ludicrous situation - if a migrant or illegal worker is found, send them back whence they came the same day, very least hold on to them and make applications to whoever and whatever is needed to get them out on an urgent basis.

Calais and the Migrants 5th September 2014 10:07 AM
“....The whole idea of being a genuine asylum seeker, is that you claim asylum in the first safe country you arrive in. A genuine asylum seeker will be someone who is being persecuted in their own country. No one entering this country from Calais are genuine asylum seekers otherwise they would have claimed it in any of the several countries they traveled through.

Europe as a whole should deal with this, as it is Europe which decided to open up its borders.”

Thats actually a very interesting point - so why can't the UK remove them when they are found on UK soil? Is it because they didn't mutter those words "Asylum" ?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Yep i can read it

So i'm part of the 55% that can read jumbled up words - not sure if thats a good or a bad thing

0809 hoax - heads up 5th September 2014 9:57 AM

Ahh that i believe is a different thing.

I've had that a few times, someone has text my house number rather than my mobile, and the phone providers now can store the message.

I thought to be honest that they rang you to give you the message not the other way round - was the message saying you have a text message from 075....?

Not a call charge expert but a 075 number is a standard mobile and will be charged as such from your landline.

Hang Him ! 4th September 2014 11:19 AM

Hmm on reflection maybe thats a bit extreme but can someone tell me what benefit to Society this sick individual has to offer?

Imagine you are at home and your phone rings, "hello, im a doctor at a hospital and your son is dead !" The shocking truth you discover when you reach said hospital is that you have been pranked called (i use that term loosely) by a sick and twisted individual that was drunk and thought it would be fun to make some hoax calls  Yes he now feels remorse and shame - cant even begin to imagine how the parents he called felt !!!!

Being drunk is no excuse. Ok i dont get "ratted" very often these days, but i enjoy a sherry or 2 now and again  but never, when i over indulged back in the day, did i think about ringing anyone to make a sick phone call.

This story broke a couple of days ago and a link to the full article is here - BBC News

Sentencing takes place at the end of the month - lets hope he gets locked away for a long time - have a feeling he may well escape with a slapped wrist and a promise he will be a good boy

First ever Range Rover to be sold 4th September 2014 11:02 AM

Land Rovers first ever Range Rover to roll of the production line in Solihull, is to be sold at Auction in London later today, with an anticipated price tag of £140,000.

The vehicle still with its original gearbox and engine, dates back to 1969 and has been sat at the Land Rover Centre in Huddersfield since 1991, where it was restored and reunited with its original number plate.

Extras seem extremely sparse on the vehicle - just wondering what £140,000 would get you on a modern version. I know which i would rather have, well actually if i had £140,000 it would have to be an Aston Martin!

Calais and the Migrants 4th September 2014 10:12 AM

On Tuesday the Mayor of Calais threatened to blockade the Port unless the UK did more to help the migrant problem that is plaguing the French Port.

This morning news was breaking of an attempt by dozens of migrants trying to storm a ferry bound for England. The attempt was thwarted by ship workers raising the ramp and turning a fire hose on them!

So what can be done to help the French? Is it our responsibility to help the French disperse the migrants on French soil?

From our side of the Channel should we not make our Country less attractive. Our benefits system and NHS seem to attract them from far and wide.

Should we not husband this resource for our own Nation? Some of the resource spent on migrants claiming our benefits could have gone to fund the treatment for Ashya King for example.
