World Cup - Interested? 12th June 2014 5:07 PM

Oh joy its here !

TV programmes all over the place - wish the BBC would give as much fuss over the F1 - you can bet any games that overrun will eat in to your favorite programme!!!!

I for one am not interested in watching 22 men pick a ball around, tripping over blades of grass, rolling around in agony one second, getting up & sprinting the length of field the next

BORRRRRRRRING !

Really depends on what product you are trying to bring to market.

Can see that you are posting from India, so what is it that you do?

Petrol Car or diesel Car 12th June 2014 12:01 PM

You can only really now put petrol in a diesel as the diesel nozzle is too large to fit in a petrol car MOST of the time.

Figures show that somewhere in the UK someone missfuels their car every 3 1/2 minutes !

Thats a lot of lost fuel & a lot of business for the mechanics that have built a trade from draining the fuel system!

Passport Issues 12th June 2014 11:42 AM

Just saw on the BBC website that people with an urgent need to travel can have their Passport applications  fast tracked for free until the problem is resolved.

Not quite sure how that will be policed but at least its something.

No doubt Theresa May will be facing some tough questions in the coming hours/days !

Passport Issues 12th June 2014 11:15 AM

Sainsburys report sales drop 12th June 2014 11:00 AM

Yep - agree with you once again.

We said the same on the Tesco thread, think people now shop a lot wiser and visit several stores now in search of the bargains - this should hopefully keep prices down !!

To be fair Barney, teachers pay was brought in to line with similar qualified professionals some years ago, BUT up until the late 90's their pay was down.

Black Cabs in Uber protests 12th June 2014 10:43 AM
I was listening to their representative on LBC radio this morning one of their gripes is, Is that Uber (and I like millions of other Londoners had never heard of them until today) were avoiding tax, coming from black taxi trade, its a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. All industries regardless of their history change and they have to change to the modern world, most of us don't like change, just like the London underground tube drivers don't like driverless trains. Driverless trains are on the way, in fact the Docklands railway is just that. My industry has changed probably more than most. Years ago you got your city and guilds and away you went, nowadays your retested every 5 years, we didn't like it but we had to do it. What also makes me laugh about the black taxi trade is, although they have done the knowledge which granted is difficult to complete, the majority of cab drivers now use sat navs. What their gripe is really about is that their going to have to work harder for their money. As to whether their strike effected me, no I was at home mowing the lawn

Cracking points as usual Barney - glad to hear you were safe at home

I was in London couple of weekends ago, jumped in a black cab to do a short 4 mile stint, cabbie firstly didnt know where i wanted him to go, fortunately i "dropped a pin" in the google map on my phone, once i'd shown him that he then  programmed his sat nav - £15.20 & 12 mins later we arrived.

Wonder what the Uber app would have made of that!

Whats interesting is that a few people i heard being interviewed yesterday had never heard of Uber until yesterday, seems the cabbies have scored an own goal by giving Uber a massive platform to advertise on - Doh !!

As usual, good advice from you Clive.

I agree customer service is simple (but simple doesn't mean easy).

 ”

Thats my point though, companies need to make customer service a higher priority - it can take years to build up a reputation that can be destroyed in seconds with poor service or a poorly trained staff member.

Its even easier now to publish comments on social media that names and shames bad companies - i'm all for that as long as there is a right to reply  Think companies are slowly becoming aware of this now though which for the consumer can only be a good thing.

If you are not a people person you really shouldn't be in the customer service industry, or be customer facing

Black Cabs in Uber protests 11th June 2014 1:22 PM

Just reading that black cabs are set to protest in London over the introduction of a new system for private hire vehicles that effectively works out the fare on a mobile app.

Cabbies insist that only they can have a meter fitted in the vehicle, yet the app isnt fitted to the vehicle which seems to be the contentious issue.

Right or wrong, not sure causing disruption to tens of thousands of people in London today is the answer. Whats the financial implication?

Anyone in London today? Hope you get out ok
