What makes a GOOD business idea? 14th September 2011 10:56 AM
Its the one thing you know will work, beyond a shadow of doubt, and its the one idea you cannot wait to start working on.

This actually works for me. When I am curious, want to work on an idea, it actually works out better for me, and the project does well. It's not about filling a gap in the market with some new fangled invention, its about doing something you want to do and knowing that you might not be the only one doing it, but you're probably the only one that cares about how you do it. Which could increase the success of the idea.
I don't really think its going to be able to make the comeback it thinks it can. It's going to be a lot of hard work trying to get people away from facebook. We even use facebook for business, and I don't really see businesses and internet marketers trying to get sales on myspace. (and then not to mention google +1)

Unless they can revolutionize social bookmarking, I don't really think they stand a chance.
facebook Page Builder 14th September 2011 10:43 AM
ooooo always liked Scottish accents... (braveheart flashback)

I did a little google search, and came up with the same site, but it was a sales page. Someone was talking about building a like page really quickly. The only other problem I have is that its created with iframes. These aren't really popular anymore. (My browser goes beserk before it even loads one.)
I am actually

Wow that's staggering. Will have to check ours.... eh not better at all. informal sector lost 141 000 and formal sector 100 000. Wonder why that's happening all the time though. i don't generally see businesses doing that badly.
Flash and SEO 14th September 2011 6:39 AM
Flash, Javascript, stuff like that, are hard for crawlers to read. I heard once that some bots are actually coded to ignore these in most cases? Interesting thing about the text links etc? Most IM training courses still say its the best way to get things done.

If anyone could shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated.
SEO - how not to do it! 13th September 2011 9:23 AM
Well that isn't 100% correct.

There are ways but they are called blackhat.. These are spammy types of links. Although its not really instant its a lot faster than normally link building/seo, depending on your competition it can be instant.

This is short term type of seo. Its for quick rankings.

And quick deaths if you're caught. I could go on and on, but the best thing to do is make sure that you are never caught on the wrong side of Google. SEO takes a LOT of time yes, but some sites may rank faster than others. It depends on the traffic the site gets and how many people link to it naturally.

This is the actual definition of SEO (IMO): Optimizing and advertising a site that results in links to the site growing naturally. (naturally meaning people linking back to your site that are not employed by you).

What Google primarily does is watch the natural growth of links to a site over a period of time. If it grows too rapidly, they have a look and if you have been found to violate any of their "rules", you end up with a little note in your webmaster tools dashboard, or if you're not using their tools, your site drops rank to the extent that you would have to go to the furthest most cobweb infested corners of the web to find your site... if you're lucky.

I love this little emoticon....
UK Hosting companies... I'm cursed.... 13th September 2011 9:13 AM
If you would like to borrow my baseball bat, let me know.

I use godaddy hosting for my hobby site, and so far so good. I have the option for ten databases and I have 10 gigs to play with. (Basic plan ~ don't need more yet)
Haven't had a problem yet. I recently stripped the site down to its WP template because I am redesigning, and that didn't end in tears either.
Is Wordpress the best site type for SEO? 13th September 2011 8:22 AM
Are you going to host the blog yourself, or use the WP hosted blogs? Reason I ask is because with a WP hosted blog you are limited (extremely so), but then your blog will have some form of SEO that you can do. You just cannot use plugins .

If, however, you are going to host the blog using a hosting company, your outlook is infinitely better. You can use plugins to your heart's desire and there are many SEO plugins available that you can use. You can also use jetpack, which you can then link to a WP account to connect your blog with wordpress, and so increase your traffic possibilities.

To get around the coding is easy. You only need a decent knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS etc. if you are planning to create your own templates. If you just want to create the blog, use a template, and make posts etc. then you don't need a lot of knowledge about either unless you need to troubleshoot. If you like, I could help you set it up, send you a few notes etc. so that you can create the site, set up wordpress etc.

One site I know has really great templates that are SEO minded is Woo themes. Most of their templates have their own SEO settings you could tweak to get the most out of your blog.
HP to stop making computers! 12th September 2011 8:38 AM
I have used mecer laptops, IBM thinkpads, and a dell laptop. Not really sure if there is much of a difference between laptop and desktop, but I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, and the specs on this laptop alone make me grin like the cat that got the cream. I haven't had a single problem with it yet, so not really sure how it all affects Dell's outlook here .

I have an HP all in one PSC, and I wouldn't know what to do without it. I guess every business needs to take stock at some point and see where they are making a profit and where they aren't so I wish them luck and hope the idea works out to their advantage.
lol it would, in a way, be a better idea to be a complete package. It's easier to explain. You market websites and products and services on the internet. Rather than have someone look at you strangely because they cannot understand why someone would need a twitter expert. Expert at what, tweeting? following? retweeting?

I had a worse time trying to explain my previous job. I was part of a london based recruitment company and my task was to edit jobs put through the system before they went to the site.... (no one got it lol go figure).
