The People at Hp made the worst decisions in computer making I have ever experienced. First they bought Compact which was a top of the line computer with no problems. The Hp computer at that time had a severe programming issue in there mother boards. What did they do? They put the guts of the compact into the computer with HP programming.. They should have used Compact programing and their boards. That problem still exist today. They sold Agilent technology. Then they took American jobs and had their Flawed product made in 3rd world countries. Carly Fiorona, was president of Hp at that time and she bailed and tried to run for political office. The blind leading the blind that's what seems to happen in America these days. Could you imagine if she was elected. I hope that Samsung takes over that division, they make competent products. Now these genius are only going to do business applications? If your a business... run the only thing they want is your information. If you got their software and are running it how many times has it crashed. HP doesn't employ the people who buy the product so" good buy". Your computers stink. Oh by the way HP makes a great printer....maybe they should have read KISS.

I have used mecer laptops, IBM thinkpads, and a dell laptop. Not really sure if there is much of a difference between laptop and desktop, but I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, and the specs on this laptop alone make me grin like the cat that got the cream. I haven't had a single problem with it yet, so not really sure how it all affects Dell's outlook here .

I have an HP all in one PSC, and I wouldn't know what to do without it. I guess every business needs to take stock at some point and see where they are making a profit and where they aren't so I wish them luck and hope the idea works out to their advantage.

Thanks,
Dreamraven

lol welcome aboard museken

Guessing you're not a HP fan Agree, Compaq's were cracking machines, haven't heard about the programming issues before.

Right, time to look at the Lenovo site

Shame because I've always like HP kit and used it for years and am using it now.

I've also dealt with a HP as a customer in various guises and know that selling tin as they put it doesnt make them a lot a money. But as any of their sales people will tell you the hardware is imporatnt to them as more often than not it is the foot in the door that gets them all the added value services and software. Might be a big mistake.

So what happened is that some stakeholders pushed management to develop in China using dirt cheap materials to cut cost. And after a year or two it was not able to carry the support burden anymore. What they have produced for several years lately has been dirt crap. I have sent in the same HP Pavilion about a dozen of times (to be honest actually just ten times with with collect and return carrier) without any problem ever being fixed.

The stakeholders have cashed in and the brand name has obtained JUNK status. HP (among IBM, Dell and Compaq) was an A brand once upon a time, you can screw up a brand name only once in a lifetime. Of course they will carry on developing PCs but under another brand name. Hope this will be a lesson to other companies.

I am a big fann of HP . they provide such a good services in there laptops, p.c.,and tablets. I m using laptop of Hp since 2 year and i didnot find any froblem in it ............so i m not agree wid you.................

The strategy might work for them like IBM strategy worked when they moved away from PCs. Doesn't seem to be a clear sense of direction at the moment for HP. HP make fairly good laptops in our opinion but lets see how this one pans out for them.

This will really sting. Though I am happy to be one of those who were able to get their tablets for $99. I could not say that I am happy with their exit as their brand was rather one of those which I thought was stable in the market, but apparently not. I think their decision to jump to the tablet bandwagon and not do well really killed them.

How do you guys think HP will handle this transistion?

Interesting question. HP seem to be all over the shop, they've just got rid of the CEO, Leo Apotheker after less than a year in the hotseat!

New CEO Meg Whitman has stated HP will announce their plans at the end of October.
