Blimey, couldn't believe this one ![]() "Hewlett-Packard has confirmed plans to stop making PCs, tablets and phones, in order to refocus on software. It has also emerged that the US company has agreed to buy UK software firm Autonomy for
Ouch!! I also really like HP and my desktop, printer etc is HP. Fair play to them though. They have made a very brave decision due to the tough economic climate to concerntrate on what they believe will make them prosper. A lot of people say you need to diversify when things get tough but sometimes you just need to knuckle down and concertrate on the core of your business. Will be keeping an eye on them.

Always liked HP...hopefully they are making the right call, though I have my reservations. A lot of software products are going open source nowadays so to give up their slots as the worlds largest PC maker is definitely an extreme call. Malok
“A lot of software products are going open source nowadays so to give up their slots as the worlds largest PC maker is definitely an extreme call.” Agree totally, still gobsmacked to be honest. I guess that free's up Dell to take over the world. ![]()
Side note, doesn't appear to be helping their stock prices very much: H-P hits six-year low, losses lead tech action - MarketWatch Maybe they should rethink their strategy. ![]() Malok
Looks like this thread has generated some interest, have seen a spike in traffic over the last few days with this thread as the entry point! Google Search - HP to stop making computers
I am a big fan of HP Compaq Servers. As far as I know HP sell more PC's than dell. I think they are the biggest PC sellers on the planet, so this is a bit of surprise. However, I am not that surprised. Margins are low on PC's and I have seen that IBM became more profitable after selling it's PC arm to Chinese Lenovo, so it may be trying to do a similar thing and concentrating on more profitable areas. “Looks like this thread has generated some interest, have seen a spike in traffic over the last few days with this thread as the entry point!” I think Google favours this forum(for search results) over others because it has got less or no spam posts(linking to bad neighbourhood) at all, credits to you guys. ![]() Thanks, fourth-monkey |
