Google offers Page Speed Service 1st August 2011 10:47 AM
I'm just worried that subjecting the site to it might have everything being redone and it looks like gobledigook. I did not have a total hand in designing the site (other than a few images, the mascot etc..) but I was responsible for making sure it loaded fast, had the right amount of content etc.

I believe at one point I sat with a stopwatch Seriously....

I don't really think our site needs it as it loads really well regardless of what speed you're running at. And if we did have that problem, I would be sorting it out.. not the big G.
For me its a case of too many cooks spoil the broth, when it comes to handing a site over to a third party where you have no control over the changes they make to it.
and here I was going on about people abusing the system. (feel kinda bad now). But if they are axing big company names, surely there is a tie in somewhere with the removal of other, not so well known ones?

I think Google should have known that companies would have wanted a slice of the action and catered for it from the get go, giving us the option of one or both? It would in all likelihood made them a tad more popular.
It just feels that, SMM is a lot different than working on blogs and forums etc. I love writing and I love to help, but what you say is true. Even my twitter page is overrun with sales pitches daily. It leaves me thinking that, no matter where you are, whether its a social network or not, you need to sell sell sell all the time, which is probably what makes me uncomfortable. I can advise a person, I can point them in the site's direction, but I will not force a sales pitch on them all the time. I just feel that, from past experience, you don't always want a sales person hanging around you shoving a sales pitch down your throat all day long. Maybe that is one of the reason I don't spam people, maybe that's why I prefer to be an adviser, rather than a salesperson. Being able to help someone buy the right product, rather than try get them to buy something they would in all likelihood never need is a better alternative because I feel that people respect you more for helping them, rather than have them curse you because they spent a decent amount of money for you to pad your own pocket with.

like I said, lol old school. But I believe that, even though I may be, the sales I make are ones that not only help my company excel, but help my clients excel. That was my goal when I created my campaign.
I still think of myself as a newbie in many aspects, regardless of my training and experience / success over the last while. To be honest, starting out I felt I was being tossed head first into a tank of hungry sharks. Literally. I earned my stripes and I can vouch that it is not easy at all. Social bookmarking for me is even harder. I don't mind being active on forums, I actually love that aspect, but to make myself THAT visible on a social network is the scariest thing I am ever liable to do. I try though. I work with our fb and twitter page, but to be honest, I am a lot more comfortable on our blog. SMM just makes me feel out of place sometimes.

LOL I suppose we (redheads) kinda deserve that for all the blonde jokes we toss about.

It can be a powerful tool. Sometimes, the main thing that bothers me is that guests can read what you're writing about. Sometimes, its ok, especially if you are trying to make a point or get an opinion out. But with the protective measures in place to protect the community from bad apples, what is going to stop them from trying to take an idea you spoke about in the forum. I know, you have private forums etc. but even that is not perfect IMO. IF I wanted an honest opinion about a design I created, I would feel uneasy about adding it to a forum, only to see it being used by another person before I even got feedback.

Besides that though, I love forums. It gives me the opportunity to make friends all over he world, it helps me broaden my horizons and even help someone every now and again. It's a lot like making friends and then going down to the pub every now and again to just relax and have a chat and some fun. It's just minus the beer, pretzels and music

I can see that. Seems to be a lot more negative there as well. Do you think that, maybe because of this, people use forums when they want to get someone's attention after battling with them for some time with problems they don't seem to be able to sort out?

I think yes, it is still effective

Have you seen any positive results from forum posting? Everywhere I read now days people are divided. Some believe that it really isn't wort it at all.
