I had a member on my other forum complain that he had lost all his EMD's. Every single one of the couldn't be found within a search beyond 100. There are a few other very upset webmasters out there.

Its good that Google is trying to wipe out spam, but this is a bit drastic.
Sounds tricky. Have you installed anything recently that coincides with the time the sound stopped working? Especially utility programs? If it controls the way XP or the laptop works, it may have something to do with it.

other than that, have you tried to roll over to previous driver versions? In the device manager, there is a way to do that, if you right click over your sound card/chip/components in the listing and click on properties. Also, you might want to see what motherboard updates there are for your laptop. Are the sound drivers bundled with HP? or do you have separate applications? I have Realtek on my PC and laptop, so If you do have a setup like that, it would be a good idea to see they have drivers.

If all else fails, or you feel that you would rather not play around with the laptop too much, I would recommend you take it to a trusted techy so they can have a look at it.
Dell & Vista Laptop 3rd October 2012 7:16 AM
Dell is best rather than Vista laptop brands.

Vista laptops? My dell has Vista Business installed....

Be that as it may, however, do you have any advice for the Kevin? he did ask for help about a specific problem and not whether dell was the best or not. (we already know it is )

The only justice we have is proving them wrong, and it shows the members what the person is capable of. We have a few in the hall of fame, but to be honest, its not something I enjoy doing, and its no fun being caught in that situation either. But, its part of the job description, and something no one will ever be able to change. The best thing is, when you're part of a good forum like this one, and someone throws their toys out the cot and publicly flames the forum, people will also know that they are being silly, especially our members.

They wouldn't really be mods if they didn't follow the forum creator's rules, but I get it . From what I have seen so far, most times its the mod that gets it the most, and people think that because they can't intimidate the Admin/forum owner, they will try it with the mods and see if they can get something out of it all.

I mod at another forum as well, and they run competitions every now and then, and that's when things really get out of hand. You get multiple accounts, post counting and people going as far as outsourcing people (to get higher points for referrals) to help them win the competition (all against the rules), and when they are caught out, its the mod that banned them that gets the most flack. Our admin on that forum shared emails from the members that were banned and to tell you the truth its downright scary how nasty some people can get, simply because they were caught out doing something wrong, and feel they deserve the right to keep doing what they want to regardless of any rules.
Hi Dreamraven,
Thanks for coming up with answer. Here how I go: I'm uploading photos with link to pinterest, trying to gather followers. In case of Facebook, I post links to my page and walls. Sometimes to the related fb pages of others. I'm using tumblr, multiply, delicious also.

Thanks.

Ok. But when you look at facebook etc. what is your ratio between links and actual conversation? What normally happens is that, when people see that someone is only posting links and not really talking to people, it kinda puts them off. I cleared out my twitter followers because of that a while back. I'm not saying that is what you're doing, I'm using it as an example.
Mix it up a little. Give out links etc. but also take the time to give visitors some information they can use.

You are in photography, and retouching. Its similar to my digital art background (I am a photo manipulator as a hobby), so there I would give out advice, tips or just information about what you do, why its important, and also what the difference would be if you don't use filters in a photograph as apposed to using them etc. If you can get visitors to engage with you, half the battle is won.

* Takes a sip of her coffee..... "Next!!"

( You just can't keep everyone happy I guess.) (takes off her mod hat).

I have been here for yonks (on and off), and I have to admit that I enjoy being here. I'm not trying to defend the forum, nor the actions of the mods. Everyone here knows that MLF is a great forum and awesome community.

That would make us an excellent target, because of how quickly posts are indexed and also the fact that when someone searches for a post, its generally listed high on the searches. Sour grapes much? Or was it that they thought they could intimidate themselves into the forum just so that they could selflessly flog their own marketing campaigns without thought for the community around them?

It's no use trying to introduce business principles to indizine....she is another one of those small time web designers who hasn't yet realised the business implications of her industry. She just likes to make pretty things.

Where everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I think it only fair that this difference in opinion between you and indizine calm down. There has been no activity in this thread all week and still you seem to want to stoke the fires.

Let's return this thread to the respectful one it started out as please.
