One question comes to mind. How have you been promoting on social media sites? That alone could help you solve issues. Also are the people that "follow" you in your niche or your target audience? Without a little more info, there's not much we can do to advise you.

Hi Dreamraven,
Thanks for coming up with answer. Here how I go: I'm uploading photos with link to pinterest, trying to gather followers. In case of Facebook, I post links to my page and walls. Sometimes to the related fb pages of others. I'm using tumblr, multiply, delicious also.

Thanks.

Ok. But when you look at facebook etc. what is your ratio between links and actual conversation? What normally happens is that, when people see that someone is only posting links and not really talking to people, it kinda puts them off. I cleared out my twitter followers because of that a while back. I'm not saying that is what you're doing, I'm using it as an example.
Mix it up a little. Give out links etc. but also take the time to give visitors some information they can use.

You are in photography, and retouching. Its similar to my digital art background (I am a photo manipulator as a hobby), so there I would give out advice, tips or just information about what you do, why its important, and also what the difference would be if you don't use filters in a photograph as apposed to using them etc. If you can get visitors to engage with you, half the battle is won.

Echoing Dreamraven, "engaging your audience" is the key. A lot of people (I'm also guilty) tend to forget the social side, ie interaction, not just sales messaged or self serving links. Engage with your audience, comment on their services or products. A bit of flattery can work wonders, then all of a sudden, someone has reposted/retwttited,repinned a comment, pic, URL etc.

Your thread title is "how to get rapid traffic..." Maybe thats where you are going wrong. Take it nice and easy, don't look for shortcuts, become known as the photo expert across different channels. It's not quick or easy, but it is sustainable once you get there.

Although this is aimed at FB PPC, I think it highlights some points in how to use FB properly.

Hello sjr4x4 (Professional Waffler),
I love your style of writing. However, I thank you very much for your suggestion and I'll try to materialize that in future.

I always prefer Stumbleupon and pininterest. These websites are Good to gain traffic. But you need to pay Time and Dedication to generate reputation but once you have you can get ton of traffic on daily basis.

I think it depends on your type of business.

Pinterest is great if you have something visual. Linked-in is better if your product is more consultation based.

hmmmm, Don't think the OP is using Linked in. I know they're using pinterest, as they are in the photography business.

I still say its how you do things and not what you do. For instance, one of my favorite hobbies in photo manipulation, is to manipulate bits of metal images around a base photograph. I created a horse and a wolf that way. In any case, All I did was add their images to a forum I frequented and asked a few questions, and for feedback etc. Not too long after that, I was asked to write tutorials for the horse image I created, for more than one site.

In that example, Its what I did that got other artists talking, i.e. my metal manipulation. It was an image, placed in a targeted area (an artists forum), where other artists where the people I wanted to talk to. All I needed was the spark that would start the conversation. Which turned out to be my horse and wolf.

So, if you go where your target audience is, give them something to talk about and actually talk to them about it? Chances are you'll gain a lot more than you would just looking at what other quick, cheap and easy ways there are out there to get traffic.

Thanks,
Dreamraven
