Just in response to the success rate on Linked-in - I got two good bits of business and found an old University friend! Personally I think any leads from Linked-in are usually good and don't take any real effort.
One could probably do more with it - pay for a higher level or constantly update your status with links etc. I don't so can't say if that makes a difference.
Used to be a big Chrome fan but now moved over to Firefox.
Chrome works great on my Android phone but Firefox appears to be way more reliable on my PC.
Sorry Chrome...
Mainly use the Google stuff
Google Analytics - great for site analysis (landing pages, exits)
Google Webmaster Tools - shows you how your site looks to google. keeps them happy.
Google Adword keyword tool - great for seeing which keywords are actually searched on!
Also use the SEOBook Rank Checker plugin for Firefox. Very handy to keep track of page positions.
Have use google for sitebuilder but still prefer upload a WordPress or a Joomla site.
Just like having complete control over modules, caching, SEO and the like.
Personally I think it is worth the (minimal) effort.
Uploading WordPress or Joomla is pretty easy for most hosts. In fact many will install it directly from their control panel.
Yup - I would install Wordpress on that server and link into it from your html site.
Should be possible to run Wordpress side by side.
Ideally your hosting co will support WordPress out of the box. Have a look around the control panel and see if there is an option to activate it.
Support loads of Macs and PCs in my day job.
No difference in form factor or performance these days.
Macs - pretty, trendy and possibly easier to use.
PCs - much easier to network with servers and use Microsoft software.
If you want to get the job done in an office environment get a PC.
I have a few different sites and like sjr4x4 usually assess based on requirements:
- How much downtime can I bear (check the SLA)
- How much control do I want of the machine (web only, need for cron jobs, custom software, my own OS)
- How much bandwidth, CPU performance
If there is the budget then I would go for a virtual private server or a dedicated server.
Was very disappointed with the HHGTG film. Could probably never do it justice anyway.
Everyone should read the books (and maybe listen to the radio).
Just don't watch the film.
Podcasts from Frank Skinner's Saturday morning show on Absolute Radio.
Very funny in a thought provoking easy listening kind of way.
(Sorry Frank for calling it easy listening)
Heard of someone who lost their domain when the registrar invoked some late payment clause or similar - even thought the person wasn't warned.
Very unfair to be honest and I suspect some dubious registrars try to take advantage of folks.
