I'd consider targeted advertising first.

It sounds like you know who your ideal customer would be. Maybe finding ways to advertise directly to them would be more direct.

Like direct mail or a leaflet drop?

An interesting proposal. It has got me thinking thanks

I do know my the people I want to target but the sales person would work on comission so I wouldn't lose money.

Organic rankings though are shown below Places unfortunately these days

Not always but yeah most of the time. It depends on how good you do your link building.

Since you have different types of results now,

Pure- this is a block of GP results
Blended - Its GP mixed with organic results. - this is where organic rankings matter the most and its just linked with your google places listing.

I have seen many Google Places listing being either blended or being in the middle of the results page.

Edit:

Linastylist : Sorry i was being curious so I had a look are your site (and rankings) and i see your doing really well organicly Kudos, but your not in GP

Heres a tip, get a few more citations - you have the reviews, you just need the citations, i have counted 94 citations

One way to add it, is to add your business name, address, phone number in the footer of your website This will mean that a citation will be placed on each and ever page of your website

Google Places has been crazy since they changed the layout, and it was because of some legal battle with yell, yelp.

But what annoying is that google will choose whether or not to show information you provide in the listing. On of the listings i have provided, I have added info from the owner but its not showing up.

Plus i'm no where to be found in it which is just plain odd.

Where as places listing i have done for myself and others, its all fine and its ranked 1st.

This is why i prefer the organic rankings.
Yeah I built a local business website and then submitted it to loads of local directorys, and the next day I got about 20 calls in the morning from 8am-1pm.

After 2 calls I decided to keep the phone next to me so I would need to keep getting up to answer it. These were all gas and electric companies :/

But I dont do any business with people hiding their caller ID, and i told this one person that.

Also last week i got acall from the firemen magzine, and i turned it down and then 20 mins later i got the same company calling me with a different person.

These people are ruthless.
I'm an internet marketer and I believe I'm pretty good at it at least the results show it.

But, I'm not a sales person at all. I mean I would plan to do some sales calls, not even called calling but just to confirm information, and I can't get myself to actually do it. I just bottle it. I have no experience in it either.

So I was thinking, I should get a sales person who can do it for me, call up businesses, may be a little called calling (I'm not a fan of it tbh so not sure) but mainly to get other businesses to know about us/me.

This is for one of my websites, not for my seo/sem biz, but may be later on if i see they're good, then i might consider them doing it for my sem biz.

This person would solely work on comission, I'm willing to cut my profits a bit to get a few sales rolling in. Now this person wouldnt neseccary need to be in my local area, but for the local directory it might be helpful.

So how do i go about getting a sales person? stuff i need to look out for, like scams. I want half decent people. What kind of

link exchange 11th September 2011 4:16 PM
It made sense about 3 years ago for sure. Google doesnt value a link to your website if your sending a link straight back to it.

The reason why I think its not worth much is because most of the links is on a seperate page of the website.. domain/links or domain/resources and these pages contains a lot of other links as well.

If you want to do a link exchange properly you want to request a link on their homepage, then you will get the maximum benifit from it. But these links on those sort of pages with 100s of other links going out. It is simply not worth the effort.

The one way around it is to have 3 website in play, you have two websites a and b. you link to the guy using website a and then he links to your website b. This will be better than two website linking to each other.

Also you need you need to check the link you get to see if its on a page that is indexed in Google and its not a nofollow page.

You will get something from it but my person opinion though is its not worth the time and trouble setting it up.

I dont do link exchange at all, its a waste of time.

The links you get may be related but it provides with hardly any value, and Google is smart so it will see that you guys are linking to each other.

You will be better of using your time building other better links.

Ok so have you approached these blogs trying to guest post and then they reject you?

If so and they really are your competitors then you need to think a little outside the box

So you say you can produce an article a day? ok so instead of putting these articles up on your website you should create an account on ezine articles and some other article directories. Then you submit a few articles to these places which will give you a link back to your website in the resource box. Thats a good way to start.

If this is not enough or you want to really think out side the box.. then go to wordpress/blogspot/blogger/tumblr a few of these blogging sites. You then setup your own blog for free, and you create the blog about the theme of your business and the keywords your trying to target.

e.g. plumber in london.. you create the subdomain plumberlondon.wordpress.com you should try and get your keyword your trying to rank for in the domain .. keyword.wordpress.com

then you put these articles up on the blog, but the first few articles you put up shouldnt have any links back to your site, otherwise they will look spammy blogs and not give you much value. Then after a few posts you start adding links to the articles you post from then on.

no you can do this with all types of blogging sites like wordpress/blogspot. but you will need to do a few backlinking to these sites you create but the dont need to be as good links as you would get to your own site.

These sites wont be as good as getting a link from other well established blogs but you get a bit of value from it.

Hope it helps.
