Care Homes! 4th November 2016 9:59 AM

There has been so much speculation and fuss over the past couple of years now about Care home assistance,it really does make me mad that they are discussing the issues regarding banning the visiting of family and friends of residents due to the complaining of care.

I mean the poor old aged residents have probably had a hard enough life as it is without care homes banning them from seeing loved ones. At the end of the day a large number of the resident's families pay for the care and expect good results from what they are investing money in to. Care homes can be very expensive depending on the quality of care and assistance provided. If families are paying huge sums of money for their relatives to be looked after then of course they have the right to complain if they feel that the standard is slipping!

A source from the BBC expressed:

'He says one of his complaints was that on weekly visits, he rarely found his father's hearing aids to be working'.

His father has cancer and is blind and partly deaf; the elderly man is in an unfit condition to check that for himself therefore the carers should be there to assist and guide.

It is so frustrating in my opinion knowing that all these elderly people may be being neglected right now and we are not even aware. I know not all care homes are like this, my sister works in a care home herself and she works with some amazing people and does take good care of the residents,so I am not slating this topic as an overall because there are two sides to every story.

However on a looking in point of view, I think that elderly people are our older generation and we have a duty to look after them like they have looked after us.

Every business or organisation deals with complaints on a daily basis; it is how those complaints are dealt with that make the business/organisation stronger as a whole. By dealing with a complaint in a manner that is going to cause more uprising and problems is the wrong way to go about it. It is not going to make you stronger and is certainly not going to guarantee you happy customers that are paying you to do your job correctly.

#NationalSandwichDay 3rd November 2016 4:09 PM

Hi Guys,

Its National Sandwich day   Hope some of us can keep the trend going and tweet about what we had for lunch today, or what we should have had for lunch today should I say.

I know you may be feeling guilty because you haven't eaten a sandwich today, but there is honestly no need to panic because there is still 8 hours of the day left to get that tummy filled with some delicious sandwiches.

My advice is go to subway! Don't be afraid to be creative as you like

Also don't forget~ I want to see photos.

Farcical Fifa? Come on it's a Poppy! 3rd November 2016 3:28 PM

I think there is enough fuss as it is- the argument being that Football players already get paid a lot more than the Military and the Military are more beneficial to the country as they save lives. I think that in respect of that footballers should wear the poppy.

Question of the morning to you all~ should children ban parents from using social media sites?

There has been a lot of uprisings recently about parents flaunting images of children all over social networking sites without the child's permission/consent. The argument of the matter being that the older generation of today's society were not being exposed to this particular type of public documentation.

The counter argument however being that the images taken and posted on social media networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, are a way of parents showing their love and expressing a sense of being proud of their children.

On average 1,498 photos are taken of a child before reaching their first birthday; all in which are posted across numerous social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. The concern focuses around children not being old enough to give parents permission to post the photographs online therefore parents do not have the right to post them.

In my opinion I think this is a silly argument, parents are the legal guardians of young children therefore have a say in what photographs should be posted wherever. In defence of parents within this generation, social media sites can be made private so only friends can see the pictures and statues you write moreover I do not see the issue with sharing a cute photo of your kids with your friends. With social media security increasing quite quickly it is highly unlikely that images can be taken from private accounts and put elsewhere.

So the question is should parents really be banned from social media? I think its all a bit silly to be quite honest.

Cyber Security 2nd November 2016 4:42 PM

I totally agree with you. The government does look over the more in depth consequences of their actions and where the money actually goes.

Its ridiculous!

Cyber Security 2nd November 2016 10:21 AM

Morning all,

I don't know if any of you know about the recent outburst of cyber attacks online- but reading online yesterday made me realise that cyber security is so important! Online hacking is becoming second nature to many people and we need to knuckle down on security. As local businesses we are at more risk than anyone. We are seen as vulnerable because we do not pay thousands of staff to prevent hackers from invading our websites.

The BBC have said that the government are planning to spend £1.9 billion on cyber protection online- meaning that hackers will find it virtually impossible to gain access to any business webpage. The money however will not just be used for the online protection of small businesses, it will also be put towards the training needed for businesses to incorporate an understanding of how to keep their business safe online.

On a personal level, I think that this is a really positive approach from the government to help benefit businesses; especially local businesses that need looking after within this field. On the other hand our local economy is struggling due to lack of funds for the NHS; so the question is what is more important?

If people are not in good health or working condition then businesses are going to be at a disadvantage due to lack of workers perhaps. Maybe it is just me thinking too much into things, but I think that the sum of money being used for cyber security is an extreme amount when the society is struggling in other areas that could be seen as more important as an overall. I mean it is not just the NHS: school budgets are being cut rapidly by the government meaning less money for school projects/trips etc. Education is slacking as a result of having zero funds to make learning interactive and fun. I have even heard photocopying budgets are being cut within schools; this resulting in a limited amount of coloured paper

Well that's it then! Its a trip back to the Victorian ages for the younger generation. I wonder how they will cope

On a more serious note, we do need to think about the importance of government funds and what is a priority within today's society.

Please share your views, I would love to hear what you think regarding this.

Its November 1st now! Which means not long until Christmas!!

Whoop whoop,

best start my Christmas shopping then...

School leavers 1st November 2016 1:55 PM

Hi Julia,

I certainly agree. Both of my sisters had the opportunity to do work experience whilst studying however both worked at nurseries or infant schools and this did not benefit them as now have completely different career paths. I think the schools do need to encourage it more as many younger children are missing out on gaining some valuable knowledge

School leavers 1st November 2016 12:03 PM

Afternoon all,

I don't know if anyone has heard about the uprising regarding school leavers recently but to be quite honest it is a really eye opening topic of discussion. Apparently 8/10 British school leavers are finishing school/sixth form lacking basic business skills. Recently being a school leaver myself I do agree that schools within the UK are not doing enough to prepare young adults for the real working world.

From a personal opinion I do believe that work experience should be mandatory whilst studying the last few years of education; however as local businesses we should do more to help the younger generation.

Have any of you thought about taking on a young apprentice? Maybe you already do and I'm way out of line here but I do believe it is going to really benefit the future working world. Maybe new training programmes need to take place in order to train school leavers before they finish school. This preparing them to gain basic skills in business related jobs.

With most School chains changing to an academy status; it may be lack of funds that is stopping this from going ahead. Does the government need to help by funding schools and helping them to push students forward and benefiting them in the long run? Or can businesses lend a helping hand?

What do you all think about this topic?

Living Wage increased by 20p 1st November 2016 10:03 AM

I blame all these new programmes that keep being introduced

Its always that decision whether its going to be that cheeky drink or X factor on the weekend.

My hands are tied
