Work assignments are like buses 10th July 2015 9:06 PM

I was moaning that it had gone a bit quiet last week, despite having lots of irons in fires and everything looking rosy a few weeks ago. Now I have 3 new assignments to do and another due through any day now. Plus a heck of a lot to do for a personal project for my parents' wedding anniversary next weekend. And a bookkeeping exam on Tuesday. EEEEK!

I am definitely not moaning, but be careful what you wish for!

Depends how generous your relatives are! I don't get much these days...although half of something small is still more than nothing!

Alternatively - have a way of giving half.  A lot of halves would make a lot of money.

.....but it's true we're a selfish lot, when put in this perspective.”

Wow, this is a great idea but I too love birthdays. Hmmmm. Plus I don't get to buy myself much these days (kids!) so birthdays are the one time I can have a treat. However, even typing that makes me sounds selfish as hell as some people don't even have water for goodness sake!

I really might do this!

It is definitely good to make changes to boost businesses and therefore the economy. The fact that low income families will now be worse off, at least until the new wage rates all come in is VERY worrying. Welfare is indeed in a mess, I do think that if only they spent a significant more on the fraud investigation into both tax and benefits they would get a lot back. The fraud departments are so underfunded. I know there is a push to catch cash in hand people and the like so hopefully this will all make a difference. We all need to report people though!

Go me! 9th July 2015 9:19 PM

I got a distinction in my most recent OU course (Science in Context), I am thrilled! I am two thirds through my degree now. Hooray! It will still take years though as I am juggling a lot of things at once, but I'll get there!

Sorry, this is a totally self indulgent post, feel free to ignore and carry on with your day!

I had my first experience at a particular 'all you can eat' restaurant (which I won't name) last night. It was horrible. I was surrounded by gluttony and waste. The food was very poor quality and people were still shovelling it in! My husband has a big appetite (muscular and he cycles miles every day) so he loves it but I am small so it's wasted on me.

I just hate the whole concept of it really! I dislike all inclusive holidays too, I much prefer to experience local culture rather than stuff in chips and burgers every night surrounded by Brits.

I just wondered if anyone agrees with me as most people seem to love all you can eat places!!

On a personal level we'll be worse off so I'm not too happy. The living wage needs to be  increased more as people can't survive on such low wages.

Not sure I agree with corporation tax decreasing...they need to get the big boys to actually pay their tax! Loopholes are a big issue. They lose way more tax than is paid out in benefits, but that's what everyone gets upset about, thanks to the media!

Weak parents need to step up. No more kids watching Peppa Pig eating their tea on the sofa. Get their arses sat at the table where they belong. No more sleeping in mummys bed, no more back-chat to adults, bring back basic respect and values. Then maybe that will follow them through and they will respect their elders when they get older... ”

I am going to take  BIG issue with this statement! I hate Peppa Pig and we always sit at the table but co sleeping is wonderful and I wouldn't be without it! My child is kind and polite and will be brought up to be respectful and independent. The fact she sleeps in my bed every night (for at least half the night) has nothing to do with it and arguably means I am instilling her with more self esteem and confidence rather than ever leaving her to cry or expecting her to settle by herself. Research shows that children with strong and close relationships with caregivers are more secure and have better self esteem and are therefore happier and more successful. My daughter is nearly 2 and will be sleeping in her own room by herself when she chooses to, no doubt I'll miss these days greatly then!

Rant over.

I'm with Barney, it seemed much better without Sunday trading. The concept of a day off for most people is a nice one. A more relaxed way of life as is seen in many other European countries that have much lower heart attack rates. Bring in 2 hour lunch breaks and siestas too please.

I grew up with a father who was a GP who was on call every 6th weekend and that meant he had to be available ALL weekend. It was hard for us (especially as there were no mobiles so mum had to stay in too and answer the landline!) It seems more and more industries now work at weekends and I don't think it's a good thing. Families thrive when they can have time off together.

I start thinking about all this and it makes me want to move abroad! Not going to happen though.

Facebook Help - If You Can 7th July 2015 8:48 PM

Sure! Can I ask you how many likes have you got? What's your activity out there? Sometimes, if you created the page long ago Google may have disregarded it as irrelevant because of lack of meaningful content. Have you looked at that issue?

I think if the name on the FB page is good and you'll have a fair amount of likes, this should be picked up by Google in no time.

Facebook are as bad as Google with their goalpost moving. They change the likes that count and the level of exposure for posts all the time. Drives me mad!

Not helpful, but just saying!
