Weak parents need to step up. No more kids watching Peppa Pig eating their tea on the sofa. Get their arses sat at the table where they belong. No more sleeping in mummys bed, no more back-chat to adults, bring back basic respect and values. Then maybe that will follow them through and they will respect their elders when they get older... ”

I am going to take  BIG issue with this statement! I hate Peppa Pig and we always sit at the table but co sleeping is wonderful and I wouldn't be without it! My child is kind and polite and will be brought up to be respectful and independent. The fact she sleeps in my bed every night (for at least half the night) has nothing to do with it and arguably means I am instilling her with more self esteem and confidence rather than ever leaving her to cry or expecting her to settle by herself. Research shows that children with strong and close relationships with caregivers are more secure and have better self esteem and are therefore happier and more successful. My daughter is nearly 2 and will be sleeping in her own room by herself when she chooses to, no doubt I'll miss these days greatly then!

Rant over.

Yes you do . as much a pain as it was then I do miss her sneaking into our bed early in the morning and having to balance myself on the end of the bed with the cat between my legs hehehe

Rant away, I started it   We have a different approach, consistent routine from day one, and the only choice my little people have each night is shower or bath. When they next leave for hogwarts, I shall monitor their performance.

Only just recently found out that Grandpa from Peppa pig is the original Parker from Thunderbirds!

Anyway, better bring the thread back to Sunday Trading

Been looking at some of the media conversations about it, pros and cons with the Chancellors decision to relax Sunday Trading rules, leaving the decision to local councils.

Pro argument seems to be the internet is 24/7, so why shackle traditional bricks and mortar businesses with a two tier retail system. Let businesses and consumers decide for themselves.

Against argument from the workers unions is quite clever, that the same customer spend is spread over a longer period, watering down profit, and increasing resource costs.

Both sound quite convincing

And make the UK economy look less productive?

Having worked in retail I like to speak up for the staff as no one is speaking up for them, the union are as weak as water.  I remember working Sundays and we were paid double time. Then the retailers scrapped that and replaced it with a special Sunday premium, that is now being scrapped and so staff are expected to be available 7 days a week and not be paid any extra for working Sundays.  Many are part time and not by choice, and desperate for more hours so they will do any hours offered to them, the managers decide who gets the extra hours so if your face doesn't fit then you may find you may loose out. Plus staff don't like to make a fuss in case they get classed as a trouble maker. Plus staff are told in many cases, if you don't like the job there are plenty out there that would gladly take your place.

In another issue Intersport had a record sales year and greatly increased profit so they are paying big bonuses, £11000 each! But only the top 25% will get it anyone on zero contracts which makes up 75% of their hardworking staff won't get a penny extra!

Up the workers!

Yes, it is time for Sunday trading!!! The Sainsburys local is open near my house until midnight EVERY night. I am always going to do my shopping on Sundays, but I would prefer to do it in a proper supermarket. I'm not sure why I'm allowed to shop at a little Sainsburys, but not at the big one.

I am a working household and I don't have a lot of time during the week to get all the chores done. These antiquated Sunday trading laws really hurt my working class family.

We now do all our grocery shopping online and arrange to have it delivered at a time that is convient to us.

If Sunday trading laws are scrapped I just hope staff are protected. At Xmas shops use to close for three days longer if Xmas fell on a weekend now staff only get Xmas day off. As more more people shop online in fact more goods are bought online in the UK than in any other country in the World, do we really need our shops to be open 7 days a week?
