Should we all go electric now 2nd February 2017 2:25 PM
But the London red bus, I think the days are numbered before there is a mass culling of them...

So basically pedestrianise the centre of London

Now that's got my vote. Londoners don't need a car any more because you can't get anywhere, and if you did get to your destination, there's no where to park!

Everyone starts walking or riding a bike. People get fitter, NHS saves a fortune in diabetes treatment, Council stops digging the road up, air quality gets better and Londoners finally start smiling

If you want to leave London, get on the train or Johns Coach

Fearless drivers on the loose.. 2nd February 2017 2:14 PM

Just sit for 10 minutes in the Tescos car park anywhere in the country and watch. Sheer comedy watching people going through the complicated procedure of parking...

Now I could stereotype the gender that seems to struggle the most, but this normally balanced by little old men wearing flatcaps who can barely see over the steering wheel let alone navigate a car park

Sorry for being thick but how do I make a post, going round in circles here, ironic as I run a courier business

That's my kind of humour  Let us know if you are still stuck.

Fire Safety At Work 2nd February 2017 2:05 PM

Hello Fireman Bob.

Was tempted to say my foots on fire, can you help? I'll get my coat..

If you are working in a large business centre that provides serviced offices for a multitude of companies, is there a requirement to have a set fire drill once a year, or every two years etc? Likewise is there a requirement to have things like fire extinguishers in the office if you have more than xyz staff, or your office exceeds a set square footage?

Curious as fire drill evacuation tests are a pain for everyone, but in corporate land they were pretty common, where as in business centres from what I've seen, they are few and far between.

Add your Facebook & Twitter links 2nd February 2017 9:02 AM
Trust me to be the one to ask for assistance I use an iPad so wondering how I find my links plus once rectified can other formats be added. Thank you ”

Hi Ave, no worries mate. Best way is to add them to your forum profile select edit and add them in there. That way your social media links will show everytime someone hovers around your profile image, or if they decide to have  a nose at your profile.

In your profile you should see this section:

Just add in the URL (web link) of the relevant social media page. eg:  https://www.facebook.com/MyLocalServices/

You can also add your social media links to this thread. Does that make more sense?

How do I upload videos? 30th January 2017 1:42 PM

Hello Quiet Man

You can display video on posts by sharing a link from YouTube but you can't upload video.

To share a YouTube Video (or other video sharing site) then follow these steps:

1. Select the Video option.

2. This opens the video box which allows you to paste in the weblink of the video you want to display. In this case it's the Queen Bohemian Rhapsody video on YouTube.

You can choose the embed option if you wish, but it is easier to simply select the video URL and paste it into the box marked "source" then select OK.

3. This will then give you a preview of your post and you can add other content to your post such as text images, or more videos.

The video will show as a grey box in preview mode, this is normal.

4. When you are happy, select the "Post this Thread" and you should see your video in the new thread or post.

Does that make sense?

Hi Barney

Any news on sorting this issue out....It's annoying

Struggling to replicate it. When we first cut over, the style sheets and browser cache needed to update, but that should have happened by now.

Using the text that you used in your original reply, this is what I see if I replied:

Any chance you can do a screenshot with what you see, or what the problem is? You can post it below or email it to info@mylocalservices.co.uk if it's easier.

Sorry mate, hectic week last week, got side tracked.

If my google account is set up  for the www's do I need 1 for https , as only my important stuff is under this like sign up, checkout and account”

We had a similar issue, where we were only part https, so in our case we also set up an account for https as well as www, even though 99% of pages were only http.

But it left me thinking if we are already using https for some pages, we might as well move the whole site to https which is what we did. But we let the http and https pages run side by side for a few months, with a canonical tag (tells google which is your preferred page) pointing to https.

Then after a few months, once Google had pretty much re-indexed everything, we just redirected http to https.

Google console still shows the www version, which is useful to track progress and any probs.

Sign of the times? No vaping :) 23rd January 2017 1:16 PM

Stayed at the Lenny Henry hotel at the weekend and the sign made me chuckle...

It's funny how vaping has now entered the everyday vocabulary but I still chuckle every time I see a hipster wondering down the road in a cloud of whatever it is, steam, smoke?

Am I the only one that think it looks ridiculous, or is it the new cool and I'm an old fart?

Is the sitemap for the non www. not needed as everything redirects to www.”

Nope, you only need the sitemap for the URL you need, ie the www one.

It has been a historical pain as Google has always said you need to verify each version if your site, which for us was m.mylocal... mylocal... www.mylocal and now https://www.mylocal...

But Google is getting smarter, and although they still recommend you verify each version, you only need to worry about the correct version of your site, assuming you have your redirects in place. eg http:// to https:// or non www to www.
