Did you refresh and did that do the job?

Even more importantly can you now view it in a browser other than firefox??

We rolled out our new platform over the weekend, but for anyone who visited the old forum you may need to refresh your browser so you load our new settings.

If your page looks something like this:

Then hold the Ctrl key and press the F5 key at the same time. This will refresh your browsers settings and it will download out latest settings.

Any problems or if this doesn't fix it, let me know

Well we have cut over to the new site and touch wood no major problems spotted so far.

Hopefully you can login as before, but let me know if you have any problems or spot any bugs steve@mylocalservices.co.uk

Mince Pies 2nd December 2016 12:00 PM

Now it's December, it's green light go for mince pies, November was too early

My granny bless her made the best, but Tescos will do, need to be hot with custard

It's finally time to update our ageing creaking directory platform which has been live since 2012.

We've been planning and working on it now since May, and my wildly optimistic idea of being live by August disappeared into fantasy when our technical guru outlined how complex an update we were attempting to roll out.

But the testing is nearly complete, final tweaks getting applied and fingers crossed and a good wind, we should be live on Saturday night.

So the forum and directory will be locked down tonight, while the site is upgraded, and should be available again Saturday evening.

From a forum perspective, you will see little difference. You will log in the same, create and edit posts the same, and visually it will look the same.

But we are finally scrapping the separate mobile and desktop website approach we have had since 2009, and I've finally been won over to responsive web design, where one size will automatically resize and fit all.

The biggest changes are for our directory. The search facility was designed back in 2006, with loads of bolted on updates over the years and is well past it's sell by date.

Instead we have taken our Trading Standards Trusted Trader platform as a starting point, which has been performing really well, and scaled that up to include loads of extra functionality.

Below is an example of a listing on the new platform.

So a busy weekend ahead  and no doubt more than a few support calls on Monday morning.

But I'm hoping you like the new platform, the majority of the changes are a result of requests from customers and forum members.

Due to the complexity, there is some more functionality that will be rolled out early next year, but we want to bed in the new system and make sure it's stable and bug free.

So if you are having a beer or glass of wine tonight or tomorrow, think of us

The worst thing about making a joke is having to explain it.......

lol now that really did make me laugh out loud

Small Business Saturday 2nd December 2016 11:06 AM

Completely passed me by this year

There was quite a fanfare and noise last year, but not heard a dickybird about SBS this year. Maybe with all the black Friday, cyber Monday nonsense the message has got a bit lost?

Medal fraudsters to be jailed 25th November 2016 11:32 AM

Finally a common sense bill is going through the commons at the moment, criminalising those that falsely wear medals that they are not entitled to.

I've met a few civvy wafflers over the years, normally claiming to be an ex marines or SAS. Never the Catering Corp or MT drivers

But I don't know how anyone, ex military or civilian can look people in the eye and knowingly wear medals they haven't earned

Lock them up and throw away the key, or use them as cannon fodder in some far flung hotspot and earn them properly

Obviously I'm not including relatives medals that you are allowed to wear on the opposite side as a mark of respect.

The Queen asks to meet Mr Farage 25th November 2016 10:24 AM

Fantastic

After Mr Trumps recent attempts to sway the choice of ambassador to the US, I imagine the Queen wishes she could do this
