Free School Meals 4th September 2014 2:03 AM

I'm all for kids having a cooked lunch at school, providing it is nutritious and edible. It should be easy to fund as any cost element could be taken from the child benefit paid to the parent, so self funding if you like. For a lot of kids I'm guessing it might be the only decent meal of the day that they get. The difference from when I was at school and now, is that nowadays schools will have to take into account everyone's different dietary requirements. When I was a lad they just use to slap whatever on your plate and you ate it. Broad beans, butter beans and swede would make me gag and they still do, but school custard I knocked back by the gallon...

I've got a feeling that it is the human race that spreads more diseases than any other animal, yet we don't go culling the human species. What we do is employ scientists to find a cure.

What do you think about rail fares? 20th August 2014 9:18 AM

At the end of the day someone has to pay for it, I think the average season ticket has gone up around £150 a year. The congestion charge in London has recently gone up £390 a year, parking has also gone up. So getting to work by train isn't to bad, everyone has a choice of where and how they get to work. I don't see why any public transport is subsidised by the taxpayer when the company's that operate them are private. I guess your opinion is based on depends on which mode of transport you use. There's nothing I hate more than seeing an 86 seater bus with 2 people onboard whizzing down a bus lane whilst I'm sitting in a traffic queue. What gives them the right to get to where their going quicker than me?

Yep was gradually creeping up to £650 fully comp with maximum no claims and regardless of any voluntary excess I offered to pay. Was easier just to start with a new company. Did the same with my public liability and also saved money..

Last year was the first time I shopped around for motor insurance after several years on auto renew. The only reason I did this was because I was fed up of reading about why insured drivers keep having to pay premiums for those not insured. Well as most police vehicles are now carrying ANPR devices, there's CCTV everywhere you go in theory nothing on the road should be uninsured. So why is the legal motorist paying for it? Or is it just a con to justify higher premiums? Anyway I got mine down by around £250-£300 by shopping online, I now tick the box telling the company that I do not wish to auto renew, will be interesting to see whether they do or not. And just so people are aware the paper road tax disc is to be abolished on October 1st but you'll still have to pay for it online, so loads more fines for those who think they can avoid it....

RIP Robin Williams 13th August 2014 4:10 PM

Must admit as a 17yr old I had the hots for Mindy... As for Robin Williams, I can't say I was a huge fan, but then I've never really understood why people who are in the spotlight / famous get such adoration from people or why they are paid such vasts sums of money simply for doing a job. Been hearing all sorts of reasons of why he did it, depression, financial I don't think anyone will ever know the real reason other than to speculate as to why. Although I guess his biggest battle was with drugs and without them he probably wouldn't have been who we all think he was... Sad and such a waste....

I'm happy if I get 5hrs without any interruption...

Not sure anyone in England cares anymore, though i bank with bank of scotland, have shares with RBS, purchase boilers from two manufacturers in Scotland and eat lots of salmon.... Not sure about them being able to keep the pound though as I thought the lib/lab/con leaders all said that would not be allowed to happen....  As Alex Salmond likes a bit of this and a bit of that......Maybe they could have the bitcoin currency?

Russia sabre rattling? 7th August 2014 1:14 PM

We'll the UK can't do a lot without other nations, we haven't got much in the way of armed forces, though I suppose we could brings Steve's beloved One and only Vulcan bomber out of retirement, well that's going to scare them. Best we can threaten the Russians with is putting up the price of property. Let's just hope it's not a cold winter as gas prices will soon be on the rise....

Common miss spellings 4th August 2014 4:27 PM

To be honest it's probably my computer, I was quite happy with just IE never had a problem with it ever. Then along comes Google chrome and cloud and whether you want it or not it just auto downloads regardless. Some people just like to keep things on their computer straightforward and simple, just like their owners!
