StumbleUpon - traffic generator? 10th April 2016 1:18 PM

HI FRIENDS OF MLSs

i have finally found something worthy of a share I can't tell you how many times I've written out something and not posted it either due to confidence or just thinking its of no relevance but this time I will post becouse for some this may help. I found an app called stumbled upon its free you have to set up a quick account and then you can start posting URLs.

These could be your website addresses recommended website addresses that you want to recommend and blog posts too. I posted late Friday night after a poor days traffic and I awoke to over 300 views on the blog and website. I'm still not 100% on the apps rules to self promo but was told its ok just as long as you do not spam just with your own URLs but it works and could either increase traffic or create a sale depending

now I bet I'm going to get told off for mentioning an app lol I hope not its a gooden and was given to me by a free lance journalist to use

Hi Ave

Appreciate the sentiment. We have had a variety of shared social media account threads, where we like or promote each others over the years. It tends to skirt the rules of social media gaming but doesn't do much harm.

When we moved the social media links to the forum profiles (hover your mouse over my profile), then the old social media threads died out.

We tend to like/follow people who like/follow us, and I know a lot of people do the same. If you follow peoples social media profiles, I'm sure they would be grateful and bound to give a like/follow back. Remember to add in your social media links in your forum profile (just click your profile to edit it).

Other than that, you don't need to be an SEO guru. You've set up a site from scratch, you'd be amazed how much knowledge you have amassed and how useful that can be to someone less experienced. So don't be shy to wade in with your 5 pence worth on any thread discussions or questions.

Or a bit of humour on a friday doesn't go a miss! Our resident cartoonist has been a bit busy of late!”

Hi Steve I could retract my offer if that's required I'm man enough to say I suffer with mental health issues that restrict me so I feel like a useless SOB most of the time and why I like to help out its a great destraction and I use it to prove stigma wrong folks like me restricted in life by circumstances in life can achieve and my goal has always been to inspire others. Saying that my own SEO problems have had me nearly scrap my site I would ask questions but it's no use as I wouldn't understand the reply to implement the changes. All this palava just to show off some figurines ay lol

I'm good thanks I've learned to stick to one thing and go with it I couldn't go collecting like those Pickers shown on TV in the states do with acres of sheds worth, I have ten cabinets three drawers and two cupboards to hold my intire collection and fighting the wife for every inch of space lol

Its a good strategy, link with like minded and related sites.

Points to remember, don't over do it. You don't want to end up with too many reciprocal links (you link to me, I link to you), as this will create an unnatural linking profile and may annoy the Google god.

Also remember quality. A good quality relevant link can be worth a 100 low quality ones, so focus your energy on quality not quantity

I will have to ask wether my back links have any strength the sites I'm linking with seem well istablished and relatable to either dogs or antiques

Did a car boot once years ago. Turned up in a open pickup truck. What a mistake, got pounced on as soon as we parked up and never got a chance to get the stuff out. It was like getting hit with a plague of locusts  People were going nuts, grabbing things, shouting prices. It was only junk, completely surreal.

Vowed never again and have since done garage clean outs on ebay. A lot slower and steadier pace. Downside I now have a garage full of junk, old toys and the usual, and about a weeks ebaying to do when I can be bothered!”

Hello Eiffion
I have to agree with Steve and also give my bit of advice.

Google, like all search engines of any worth, want things you do on your site to have a real human user purpose. The problem with reciprocal linking ... "I'll link to you and you link to me" ... is that, even if the sites are realted ... does the visitor who lands on your website have any reason to follow links to another website ...

My advice is that links to other websites should always be on quality content pages, and found in the body of the page, and relevant i.e you have mentioned something on your webpage and are suggesting that if the visitor follows 'this link' they will find some further interesting stuff ... related to the reason or intent that they came to your site.

You can get some quick wins from having swapped links, but there is always the danger that Google will eventually decide the the links pointing to your site, from other web pages that have traded links with you, have little or no value and start to ignore them, you may find your site plumeting in the search results.

One thing I would advise you to do is start to search out all the listing directories both National and Local, which allow you to list your business there are lost of subject specific directories and loads with dog interests ... just search "dog" + "directory" + "add my site" or "add my Business" and other combinations and you will find lots of useful places to list your business and even get valuable links back ... but more importantly get 'Citations' (mentions of your business Name, Address and Phone number NAP) that really help to boost your SEO and local search status.

Good luck”

Thank you very much for the info Brian I'm a novice at this and CEO etc I've only just learned to create internal links I started last August and have had 22k visitors and I'm not selling anything I think for such a niche demographic that's not bad plus I'm sure many key words are used by better websites that get more importantance. Some doggy website directorys have contacted me but I have been doing what you said and joining as much free advertising as possible. I've tried asking about for a one off fix for my site so I can get better ranked but no one seems to want the job, I think it's becouse I'm not asking for a monthly plan like how a lot of businesses make their money. (Which is understandable)

i would like like to add I think I have done well with the site thus far I've collected and curated whilst fighting mental health and it's great distraction but it also has it downfalls lol thank you for your advice sir
