So grateful we live in a different time. Leaflets Worthwhile? 17th October 2012 11:38 AM “As a matter of fact, it is hard to calculate the ROI for offline marketing mediums such as flyers, postcards or any print media advertisements, and possibly that is one strong reason why most individuals wouldn't recommend you this technique of marketing. You cannot really predict how effective it'd be, honestly.” I don't entirely agree with your statement. It implies that online marketing is somehow more effective because you can target your advert. However, you neglect to mention the significant increase in cost that this generates. Any form of marketing requires effective testing by people that know what they're talking about. When it comes down to it, whatever advertising medium you go to, if you ask an expert, they'll know the tricks of the trade that give you a HUGE leg up in your campaign, and it's down to testing from there on. I'd be useless at recommending how to do a TV campaign, but I'd challenge anyone to tell me that leaflets have a bad ROI - because I have tested the market, and across MANY different market sectors have shown that a well executed campaign will generate great results. It's like anything really, pay peanuts, get monkeys. Gosh I hate spammers. Over at FBF we burn them at the stake. So what should your next new web design company be like? 3rd October 2012 9:35 PM “You mentioned that a good site with the minimal seo can outrank a bad one overloaded with SEO. It could be the design of the site itself and how it effects its visitors and not the SEO perhaps?” Well, the technical terms for the things you mention could be known as User Experience & Conversion, there are many other Jargon terms too. It's important to remember that a site that gets 10,000 visits and 1 sale is not as good as a site which just has 100 visits and 10 sales. So what should your next new web design company be like? 29th September 2012 11:36 AM Of course, comment removed. Apologies. So what should your next new web design company be like? 13th September 2012 1:13 PM “@flyerexpert, you are choosing to read into my words using your own interpretation to suit.” Ummmm, yes, I think that's called reading. “You have kept going on and on about SEO not me. It's almost like you want to argue with me over something that, as a web design company, we feel is the right thing to advise people.” No, I haven't mentioned it once. I have talked about the overall performance of the website, you might infer that I mean SEO, but I don't - I simply mean the performance of the website. Afterall, what would you say to the car dealership that has just sold you a brand new car if they came back and said "Oh, would you like your car road optomised?" “Fine, if you feel there are other things that should be added to the list, add them, but like I say, don't come to the forum insulting others people's advice as if you know best and we are all wrong. That is so arrogant.” Arrogant? Possibly. Experienced? Yes. I've spent THOUSANDS of pounds with web designers who've convinced me that pretty websites are the best thing since sliced bread. Having listned to dozens of 'experts' I had a realisation. And the realisation is simply this... I want a successful website. What is the measure of success? Money. “I am talking simply about avoiding cowboy web designers in the first instance.” And you think that by focusing on technical ability, you'll weed out the cowboys? 14 year olds are taught the technical aspects at secondary school of websites - would you trust a child with the reputation of your business? “who is best to work with based on what they offer as part of their pitch/quote.” HERE'S MY OPINION - I'd only work with a company who's demonstrated that their work will generate money, a decision based on Sanity, not Vanity. @indizine, why has this struck such a nerve with you? I would have thought that if you were a reputable designer, you'd have your case studies in place to show why people should use you? Perhaps if you're not experienced in making business descisions, you could learn something here. Let me use an example in my field of expertise, offline marketing. Option 1 - eBay supplier - 5,000 Leaflets, Free Design - So what should your next new web design company be like? 13th September 2012 1:52 AM “Still missing the point of the thread. Hey ho.” Really? Because from my reading, you ask.... “What would YOU expect from a web design/development company?” And then you go on to list some suggested questions, most of which cover technical aspects of life on the web. You then say at the end... “When you buy a website, you are buying so much more. That does not become obvious until further down the line when you decide to get more involved in it.” That's true. What I'm simply pointing out, is that your focus so far has been on the technical aspects of the web, which IMHO are irrelevant. I'm simply making the point that one should look at their web design company not based on what technology they use, but the results they generate. A company with a proven track record of producing websites with good ROI will have all the technical aspects in place - after all, they wouldn't produce that ROI without them. My point is choose your website supplier based on sound business principles, not on who makes the prettiest websites. So what should your next new web design company be like? 12th September 2012 10:04 AM @indizine - it's you who's taken this to the SEO world ... again focusing on the technical rather than the issue, which is what I was focusing on. The issue being that customers should be making their decisions based on BUSINESS rather than on technical factoids. Like any other purchase, one should look at the benefits to the business, and make a decision based on the track record, and pick a company who's proved that spending So what should your next new web design company be like? 12th September 2012 9:49 AM “Well if we were talking about choosing a SEO company, your post would be useful.... ![]() Not at all. A well built site, built by a professional who knows what they are doing with very little link building will out-strip a badly built site with a ton of SEO techniques chucked at it any day of the week. Afterall, SEO is simply the icing on the cake. So what should your next new web design company be like? 12th September 2012 7:46 AM You have made the typical web designer mistake. Focusing on the technical is simply pointless. A good company should have all those things taken care of. Instead of employing a web designer who works in their boxer shorts in their kitchen who tells you that design is everything and promising the world....go to a web designer and ask the questions that are really important... 1. Name 3 companies you created a website for 12 months ago - What is the increase in Traffic, Conversion and Revenue during the last year. 2. In the past 3 months, can you demonstrate how many SHORT tail keywords have progressed up the ranks in Google. 3. What do you anticipate the return on my investment will be in the next 12 months? When you're buying a website, you're buying an online presence, reputation and shop window....trust a professional: someone who understands business over design. |
