Anybody know anything about James Caan's recent venture - Entrepreneurs' Business Academy? I've seen the website but it doesn't seem to provide much info on what actually happens at these seminars/courses?
The seminar seems to be somewhere where they can sell other courses but I may be wrong?
Yeah, he's following the Doug Richards example, "School for Startups" Guess its a good money spinner for them, bit of celebrity, then gets bums on seats. Went to one of Dougs seminars down in London, it was good, he's a very good speaker, but did I really come away with anything? Not really. I learnt the name of the business model that we were already using "freemium" and ticked quite a few boxes, so more reassuring than learning anything, but his courses are very popular. I assume Mr Caans will be as well. He comes over as a good speaker on the TV, and no doubt has plenty of advice. But is he going to turn you into an entreprenuer? Unlikely. You have to do that bit yourself ![]()
Hi, My name is Bev James and I am the Managing Director of The Entrepreneurs' Business Academy. Someone brought this post to my attention only recently, hence the delay in reply. During the one day seminar you will hear from five self made millionaires plus James Caan. The topics range from sales and marketing to understanding the millionaire mindset. Each speaker will share insights and success strategies that can be applied to any business. Our website is: Entrepreneurs' Business Academy with James Caan - EBA Or you can call us on 0208 439 9493 or email info@the-eba.com with any specific questions. If you decide to attend one of our events please come and say Hi to me. I wish you well, Bev Managing Director The EBA Hill House 2 Heron Square Richmond upon-Thames TW9 1EP Entrepreneurs' Business Academy with James Caan - EBA
I like Doug Richards and James Caan / Dragons Den / Shark Tank etc. But the "Entrepreneurs' Business Academy" and "School for Startups" are simply a variation on the old "How to become a Millionaire" routine. It's an age-old routine to have five successful people stand up and tell you stuff. There are millions of books that do, essentially, the same thing: "Richard Branson's Keys to Success;" "The Trump Way of Thinking" yada yada yada. It is a business and the academies/schools are just a way of getting bums of expensive seats with, essentially, the same old spiel. The greatest insights actually come from economics/academia etc. They refer to things like "access to capital" and "motivation" in useful ways etc. These are low cost resources. And education such as an MBA has always, in essence, taught business optimization. And you can get these at relatively low cost (Guerrilla MBA at GUERRILLA MBA SOFTWARE, PROGRAM, ANALYSIS, STRATEGY., NetMBA Business Knowledge Center etc). In conclusion, with regard to "Entrepreneurs' Business Academy" and "School for Startups" - I'll wait for the DVD (or is it Blue-Ray now). Easy.
Hi, Knowing and doing are very different things. If running a successful business was as easy as reading a book or watching a DVD everyone would be doing it. The number one reason businesses fail is because of lack of knowledge/skills of the business owner. EBA provides face to face teaching by Millionaire Mentors in all areas of business and uses mentoring to help put ideas into action. I agree there are many get rich quick seminars out there and they generally work well for the people running the seminars and not the delegates. EBA is different because it provides a 12-month step by step programme and access to business experts and mentors to help business owners develop ALL of the skills they need to be successful in business. Feel free to take a look at our website - Entrepreneurs' Business Academy with James Caan - EBA and do contact us if you have any questions: info@the-eba.com Regards Bev
“....EBA is different because it provides a 12-month step by step programme and access to business experts and mentors to help business owners develop ALL of the skills they need to be successful in business. Feel free to take a look at our website.....” Hi Bev, how much does it cost to be a part of this 12 month step-by-step programme as I can't see any details on the website? Also, I see you also have a separate coaching academy. Is that more focused on individual careers as opposed to developing/building a business?
@EBA "...knowing and doing are different things." This is the standard response to these sorts of events by the organisers. I know you're trying to establish the EBA competitive advantage, but it's hot air. The EBA does not help you know significantly more than other methods (a combination of literature and engagement). Mentors are useful but not the sort that the EBA give you. Now if Doug Richards or James Caan were to personally be available as one-to-one mentors throughout the 12-month program then it'd be valuable. The value would be in access to their network and finance. And also they'd be able to guide through certain pitfalls and turn your head in certain directions, perhaps, depending on the business. But the "business experts and mentors to help business owners develop ALL of the skills they need to be successful in business" that you talk about will be employees giving derivative knowledge. Your own response sounds derivative and like one of an employee. The knowledge that you are talking about is, more or less, freely available - a 12 month MBA would be much more advantageous. I would like to know the % that actually start a business after attending the EBA - it will definitely not be significantly more than certain other data samples. Sorry, though I like Doug Richards or James Caan, they're just capitalizing on the brand that they've developed through TV. In 10 years there'll be other TV names doing the same thing. And I know I'm right, because it's physically impossible to offer the "direct access" you promote to the hundreds/thousands that will attend.
“Hi, My name is Bev James and I am the Managing Director of The Entrepreneurs' Business Academy. Someone brought this post to my attention only recently, hence the delay in reply.” Hi Bev, welcome aboard our Forum. I think this shows a great example of a marketing team utilising google alerts, and I'm impressed you picked up on this thread. But with the advent of the business celeb, apprentice, dragons den wannabe's and a flurry of business consultants and quick fix marketing courses, cant we be excused for being a little cynical? Unfortunately a lot of the media images and over use of the word entrpreneur, seems to have led to a spread of the "I want it now" syndrome, which has moved into business. Now by rubbing shoulders with a visual success, people seem to think they'll inhail entreprenuer dust ![]() The few genuine successes that no doubt will arise from these courses, would they not have made it anyway? But as I said earlier, Doug Richards event was very enjoyable, and no doubt James will be. I think some people just need to attend with realistic expecatations. You will arrive and leave the same person ![]() Just my 2.5 pence worth ![]()
Indeed. A one-to-one business mentor is a great idea for someone just starting out in business, to access networks, bounce ideas, get feedback, an "outside view", give you someone to 'report to' who has no stake in the business, and even (dare I say it) create a space in which you can admit, out loud, that you're having a poor month or not feeling as confident as you'd like. I get that, for free, from the Prince's Trust. An experienced and successful local (and therefore relevant) businessperson who volunteers their time to try and support a new business. I've found it absolutely invaluable so far and I hope to be able to "give back" once I'm ten years down the line. But the pay-per-ticket stuff like EBA does seem to be little more than an offer of 'entrepreneur dust' (nice one Steve) and a testament to the power of good marketing. (BTW: if any of the more experienced business people on here wanted to get involved as mentors with the Prince's Trust, it's only an hour or two a month, training given, expenses paid, soul polished.)
