Good old holiday season, volcanoes, strikes, more strikes, and folding travel companies...

"Kiss Flights has become the latest British travel company to collapse, sparking uncertainty for an estimated 70,000 holidaymakers.

The budget firm sold flights to Greece, Egypt, Turkey and the Canary Islands."

Real shame to see the travel industry suffering so much.

What worries me, it that every time a small company folds the big fish will get more power and holidays and flights will become less competitive on price and choice.

I might have to cut down on my volume of holidays if this trend continues ( she says very tongue in cheek! )

Holiday? What is a holiday lol?

Not had one of those for 4 years maybe I should go back to working for other people I had 3-4 a year then lol.

On a serious note, with the travel industry it is an inevitable impact of the economy and reduced travel abroad over the last 2 years, all these businesses are fighting hard to survive and there will be more gone before the month is out (if my close friend who works for another fairly big budget airline is right)

It sounds bad for jobs but where one door closes another opens, the UK travel industry has seen 2 great summer periods for bookings (if not weather) and this has created jobs which count toward filling the gaps left from the travel companies. It also keeps valuable spend within the UK which we cannot under estimate.

I believe we all contribute either to the collapse, or the re-incarnation of our economy with our attitude toward "getting on with it with confidence".

In the last 2 years there have been more new companies incorporated than at anytime in the last 25 years and with a greater degree of survival through the first 12 months than ever before. This says to me that the current climate has created more of US, the backbone of britain, the SME's that are flexible, skilled and competitive in times of tough competition.

Beware any government who alienates this business group in this climate as we are the leaders of the future they will run to us consult on policy not too long from now.!

I feel for the people who have been effected and lost money, but at this point in time we all take a risk of this when booking with any of the smaller player who dont have the cash reserves to manage through this period.
