Not sure if anyone has seen this but Starbucks have undergone a logo bre-brand.

They have gone with an idea and removed there company name and the word "coffee"

What do people think?

I am not sure if it's a good idea as in some scences won't it weaken there brand?

Starbucks Re-brand

I like the bigger mermaid and the clean lines of the logo ... but I agree, I wouldn't relate the new logo to Starbucks or my need for a coffee!

Design people may live and breathe the brand but most potential customers don't. They'll need something to remind them regularly of the association between Starbucks and coffee.

I think they will realise it is a mistake

I disagree. They want to diversify so it makes sense to drop the word 'coffee'....

Me awkward? Never!

It's simply the old argument of brand name v product relevancy name. You can't diversify as much with product relevancy name. Take Boots for example, they dropped the wording "The Chemist" after their name which enabled they to diversify into other areas - optical, toys, children's clothing, photography and baby equipment. These items are obviously not the typical items you find in a chemist.

I'll take your fiver now then shall I Steve old boy

Nothing more annoying than being wrong...
