Here are a list of some common and interesting SEO questions and relevant answers.

1. What is Keyword Density???

It is a throw back to the early days of SEO when keyword stuffing worked. All that you need is for your primary keyword phrase to appear in the Page Title, the Page description, and in the content once and you will do well!

2. Link building - How do I get back links?

Have great content - if your content is good people will naturally link to you.
Forums - regular posters get signature links.
Articles - writing and submitting articles is a tried and test way of creating links, although recent google updates may raise a question mark on article sites.
Blogs - commenting on relevant blogs, you can normally leave a web link and anchor text.

4. What is a Meta Tag?

Meta elements are HTML or XHTML elements used to provide structured metadata about a Web page. Such elements must be placed as tags in the head section of an HTML or XHTML document. Meta elements can be used to specify page description, keywords and any other metadata not provided through the other head elements and attributes.

The meta element has four valid attributes: content, http-equiv, name, and scheme. Of these, only content is a required attribute.

5. What is Gray Hat SEO?

Everything that is not allowed by Google is Black Hat SEO

Everything that is allowed by Google, but frowned upon, or is not allowed by Google, but is done in such a way that it is hard for them to penalize you for it, is Grey Hat SEO

Everything that is done according to the Google Guidelines is White Hat SEO.

6. Keywords in URLs - any best practices?

You can only use a hyphen in a domain name, not an underscore not any other special character.

Underscore's can however be used in the URL extension e.g. stevesgoldenwidgets.co.uk/my_great_widget

However, I would always advise using no hyphens in the domain, and only hyphens in any extensions.

7. What are the differences between External Links and Internal Links?

An INTERNAL link is a link on a web page that takes you to another page within the website eg. please contact us could be a link to the website's contact page.
An EXTERNAL link will take you out of the website to another website eg. my own website is artworks-unlimited.co.uk

INBOUND links - YOUR web address on other people's sites which when clicked will bring visitors YOUR website. These are the most highly valued links for search engine ratings, especially if they are from high status, totally relevent sites.

RECIPROCAL links - you put me on your site and I'll put you on mine! (a kind of "69" business arrangement!!!). Often abused in the past with completely unrelated websites swapping links to gain higher ratings. BUT Google etc can spot these a mile off... DON'T DO IT!

OUTBOUND links - another term for EXTERNAL link... takes you off-site to somewhere else.
