As the title says, has anyone got any experience of hosting a web business inside China?

Just looking at a feasibility study, and wondered if anyone has any experience, horror stories, pitfalls or anecdotes?

Well I would be very careful with the websites you allow on there as they are big on censorship.

I had a .cn.com (or something similar) domain name - but the rules changed and without a china address I was forced to let it expire.

So I would say that the business environment can be unpredictable. That said its a huge country with massive potential for business.

I've heard that from an SEO point of view, UK hosting is best but I'm not sure how much truth there is in that.

I would have assumed you would be better getting a server in China, faster transaction times, and its on the inside of the great firewall. From what I've read so far though, you have to be squeaky clean else its gets switched off and confiscated

Anyone actually hosting a site inside china? Or tried in the past?

I am not sure if my web hosting provider which is located in the US does services in China. I will check their website because it would be interesting to know. If they do services in China I can recommend them. I am very satisfied and besides this they have an excellent customer support.
