Currently rethinking my life, being the New year

I like the idea of running a few burger vans. No expereince in this, but it cant be that hard. Obviously location or pitch is important, but there ar eplenty of industrial parks near me, and offic eblocks.

Any one done this before or got any advice. Would prob start with one and just me, and then buy another. More vans means more profit!

Well from our last conversation you will know about insurance now anyway lol

Just remember that there are all sorts of licences required for trading on the street and also Health and Safety issues to trip over, you cant buy and van and pitch up so to speak so you will have plenty of homework to do before you can even flip a burger

Wish you all the best with your venture though

probably not quite what you are thinking about.
But when I worked at birmingham business park we used to have a van that pulled up outside everyday so you could nip out and buy a sarney.

here is the point I was trying to make they food was locally produced and was always full of said ingredient (fruit cake was jammed full of juicy raisins for instance) and were of generous portion size and his prices were spot on.

The Q for this van was always huge.

Top of my head, you are looking at:

food handling certification
permit/license/approval for your proposed pitch
guessing some form of liability insurance (garde can advise on that!)
vehicle costs/insurance
equipment costs
wholesaler account and food costs.

So this wouldn't be the cheapest business to start, and I'm not sure if you appreciate the long hours you would be working to make 1 vehicle viable, let alone further vehicle costs and staff overheads.

I'm not being a killjoy, just a realist, and as stavros says, lunch vans with a good reputation can be extremely popular, so there are potential opportunities, just be aware of the pitfalls as well

Maybe approach an established operator and see if you can get some part time work? Learn the ropes at someone elses expense, and see if flipping burgers all day is still interesting after a 14 hour day

Food handling cert I can do at nightschool, supposed to be pretty straightforward.

Permit stuff, no idea, I thought you just found a pitch! Guess will have to research that

Insurance, can't be too bad, any ideas garde?

Vehicle costs - looking in autotrader type stuff, reckon I pick up a half decent wagon with all the kit for about

You cant just turn up on a site and start cooking, all hell would break loose lol

Insurance off the top of my head you will need, Public Liability, vehicle insurance that will include the risk of fire form the cooking and some sort of traders policy but things will have changed since i left the game 4/5 years ago. I used to insure a lot of showman/fairground workers and they were forever saying how expensive the insurance for their wagons & food trailers were so do investiagte this before getting the van/trailer

Trust me, from someone that worked at a well known fast food burger chain, flipping burgers 12 hours straight gets mighty boring even if the money was ok! Are you really sure you want to do this 5 or 6 days a week in all weathers?

Personally I think you may have bitten off more than you can chew - ok cheap joke
