The best local business marketing technique is the use of the internet. Over 79% or more of people nowadays use their computer to search for local businesses... Pizza shops, auto repair shops, chiropractor services, plumbing, carpet cleaning, and other service oriented businesses.
If you are not effectively using the internet to gain more customers and make your phone ring you are missing out on the most powerful form of advertising that outshines the yellow pages. No longer do people use the yellow pages to find local businesses. They now use the internet and mobile devices.
The question you should be asking yourself is... Am I there?
“....No longer do people use the yellow pages to find local businesses. They now use the internet and mobile devices. The question you should be asking yourself is... Am I there?” Yes I'm there, and whilst I agree with you. Please keep the sales pitches to a minimum, or once you've hit 10 posts you can pitch in the Village Market. I admit the number of people using Yellow Pages has gone down but to bring a bit of reality in to the thread some people still use them. Why do web design / SEO companies advertise in them! ![]()
“The question you should be asking yourself is... Am I there?” If your reading this thread, you've found the internet! And as much as it pains me to admit it, as a directory owner, plenty of people still use offline book type directories. If you've water pouring through the ceiling, shorting out your electrics, bet you'll head for the big book to find a plumber. Online marketing has simply reduced the cost and made advertising and exposure more affordable to a lot more businesses, but at the same time, the quality of a lot of online advertising leaves a lot to be desired. So unfortunately, a downside of the internet is an almost endless choice of marketing options, leaving a small business owner the job of picking their way through a multitude of offers, the genuine, the dubious, and the blatant scams ![]() Maybe the old days of the Yellow Pages will be looked at when life was a lot simpler?
We still get quite a bit of business through the yellow pages - I think for local businesses rather than national ones it can be very beneficial. Aside from the internet we find that local networking groups, referrals, and other word of mouth methods are the most valuable.
Both Online Business Directories and local listings are important. This varies from business to business. There are people who still search for services on yellow pages, and the proof for this is the amount of daily traffic these yellow pages get. Instead of focusing on jut one thing, one should go for all the aspects of promoting the business locally.
I think it is really important to apply a range of local marketing techniques, but the web is becoming increasingly important. We run an AdWords campaign that targets local traffic only and this has brought a great return on investment and is much easier to measure than Yellow Pages. We do still use the Yellow Pages but only pay for a hard copy listing, if people want to find us online they should be able to easily.
There have been a few comments on how to get registered with both Bing and Yahoo locally, the one I finally registered on was yahoo.infoservegroup.com/business-owner-form.html. Try it and see how it works. Also Google places is good.
“The question you should be asking yourself is... Am I there?” Yes, you are doing well in your business that can be really useful for you. To keep your business smooth and strong, you have to do quality work in it either you are dealing in goods or services business. It is the only way that can help you a lot in expanding your business to real extent. By the way best of luck for your business growth.

No longer do people use the yellow pages to find local businesses. They now use the internet and mobile devices. The question you should be asking yourself is... Am I there?” I have to say that this statement is both True and False. True. Internet & Mobile Marketing IS the future and eveyday many more businesses and companies are starting to realize the potential sales it can bring, especially in the long run. As Internet & mobile marketing services like SEOs & SEMs give companies and businesses the flexibility to set their advertising / marketing budget, the duration, the target groups etc. Plus everyday or every other day, new Internet Marketing techniques & tactics are being discovered. One fine day, it will eventually replace physical advertising & marketing but it won't be so soon. Which brings us to "False" False. Well, people are STILL advertising in Yellow Pages, Newspapers, Flyers, Posters, Advertising Walls and anything which is physical and allow businesses and companies to market & advertise themselves / products & services. And don't leave out Word-of-Mouth Marketing (WOM) or referral Marketing. a lot of companies depend heavily on WOM for a big part of their sales. |
