Proposed 50% reduction in UK solar feed in tariff

Oh dear Looks like the feed in tariff, is just about to come crashing down. Seems the only people who will be happy will be the printers when they have to start reprinting the glossy brochures. Certainly not good news for businesses promoting the green cause or for those who have invested time and money getting MCS registered, I thought long and hard about getting the business MCS registered, but having got seriously ripped off by the Governments HIPS inspection courses a few years back, thought better of it...

Thanks,
Barney

Heat my Home welcomes the feed in tariff reduction to prevent 'free solar panels' companies from exploiting the scheme and draining its resources which was happening.

The new level of feed in tariff will prevent this from happening and that is why this reduction in tariff has happened to make the scheme more sustainable which it wasn't before.

The new improved scheme can now benefit everyone and not just a few 'free solar panels' companies.

Moved this to a new thread as its newsworthy.

So the way I understand it, the tariff is getting cut by 50% because the whole policy was ill thought out, and the gold rush of "free solar" installers has now brought the scheme to its knees?

Another superb UK government blunder! As heat my home says, at least moving forward this should now be a sustainable model for professional firms, assuming no one moves the gold posts again!

Absolutely, the feed in tariff frenzy which we have seen should have been anticipated and companies banned from making multiple applications. This was supposed to reward pioneering home owners but mostly only a few large companies. It had to change.

Lowering the tariff now makes it suitable for families, but financially un-viable for large companies to take advantage off.

The new improved feed in tariff will now be spread the funds more fairly to the many (home owners), rather than the few (companies).

Their are other downsides to having free solar panels fitted, which we have documented on our website:

http://www.heatmyhome.co.uk/free-solar-panels-installations.htm

Just out of curiosity, if every property in the UK has PV panels fitted would this be the end of the likes of EDF & co, after all if there that good, there'd be no need for wind farms or nuclear power stations. And if everyone has them the price will come tumbling down as well...just a thought..

Thanks,
Barney

If everyone suddenly wanted solar panels at the same time then the price would rise, think of must have kids toys at xmas.

If everyone had solar on their roof then we would need less power stations, everyone's bills would be very small but we would still need less power stations for night time power.

There is a website that has released the latest information on the feed in tariff that I found quite useful. Look at PV Solar Solutions website. It is possible that anyone looking to buy solar panels can still receive 43.3p for the next 25 years.

Hi

There is a 3rd March deadline again (just like December), however any reputable solar company will have installations fully booked up before this date anyway.

There are some solar companies using this to dupe people. Be aware that finding a company to do an installation before the deadline date is impossible.

Saying that, solar panels are still a great way to invest your money long term even with the new 21 pence rate.

I agree there are alot of solar companies out there who are just looking to make a quick buck, but I have looked at the PV Solar Solutions info on this matter and they only give the facts about the current situation. I also have a relative who has had an installation from them and she said they were very helpful and handled the whole process very well.

There are 3,000 solar companies today were 2 years ago their were only 500.

A time-served company is important, because newer companies go pop every week, leaving warranties and guarantee's worthless.

Always get 3 quotes and check.

That said, well done for acting on the benefits of solar technology.
