Well today is National Start Up Day in the UK.

Apparently we have had over 422,000 businesses start up so far in the UK this year which is quite amazing.

It would be interesting to see the stats for how many make it past the first year, and then the second, but at least it appears to show there is plenty of enthusiasm and desire to start a business out there. The more cynical side of me thinks a lot have may have been forced into self employment after redundancy or failure to source full time work. But maybe it will work out for the best for a lot of people, who may have not considered going it alone otherwise?

So if you've started in business this year, regardless of whereabouts you are, the very best of luck!

Make sure you take advantage of any free resources or support networks you can. If not this one, there are plenty more out there!

I certainly think it is a case of people being forced into self employment, I get more and more emails from UK based SEO consultants than I ever use to, it kind of goes pear shaped and flat on it's face when I ask to look at their own site or site that they have recently done work for... Also there are loads of self employed tradesmen just doing 2 or 3 day weeks now, even in London. Pay rates are also dropping although the actual job prices are staying the same or increasing. It would be interesting to know how many businesses that started two or three years ago have collapsed so far...

Thanks,
Barney
