Interesting stuff. Measure how popular your content is not by pageviews or time on site, but by attention minutes.
Upworthy says they decided to build attention minutes in the fall out of frustration with available analytics, either because they measure the wrong things or because they measured them poorly. For example, while Google Analytics

Hmm - not surprisingly im not sure i agree with this.

If you are a directory, then the purpose of your visit is to obtain contact information, once that information has been obtained i will, more than likely, then go and use that info not stay on the site & surf.

So yes in some cases you could measure minutes, in others page-views is still very much the tool of the trade.
