Why
I think the reason is people want to break barriers, overcome the obstacles and go one step further. It's the same as with the entrepreneurs. Yea i am, but this is literally costing millions and has no real benefit to anyone except those getting in the record books. Least in F1 you can see the technology being used in road cars in the future, in fact some already use previous tech from years gone by.
