So the highly emotive HS2 project is now firmly looking at phase 2 (or HS3 depending who you talk to).

According to George Osbourne on the Beeb, he wants this expanded to connect a high speed link between Leeds and Manchester.

So phase 1 - Birmingham to London.

Phase 2 - Routes from the West Midlands to Leeds and Manchester

Phase 2 addition - A direct link between Leeds and Manchester

So this sounds like good news for the North, means we become a hub in the Midlands, and theory opens up faster access to the North from London.

Versus cost, environmental impact and changing attitudes to the way we now work and how offices are manned.

So what are peoples thoughts? Are you fans or opponents of HS2?

If you are fans, do you agree with the expansion ideas, or maybe it should be taken further?

If you oppose HS2, why? What is the your main objection?

Well if it stops people who live north of Watford complaining about the UK's Government lack of investment up North then it will be well worth it I think the main problem for it will be the competition from the airlines currently London City airport to Manchester costs around £80 will get there a whole lot quicker too

Thanks,
Barney

When is it due to arrive in Hornsea? If I want to catch a train I have to drive my horse and cart to Hull, Beverley, Bridlington or York.

Its about time us northern folk got something from this government, although I suspect Osbourne is trying to win my vote....sorry to say it's not working because I think he really is a smug looking, super rich muppet who has no idea what it's like to be on the bones of your arse.

Just my opinion....no offence.....

Well if it's heading for Leeds, I guess it's a start in the right direction.

For us, the time to get to the nearest HS2 station would lose any advantage of getting to London any quicker than the normal train.

Someone wrote a good comment on Google+

"Instead of spending the money on HS2/3 etc, spend the same money on a complete nationwide upgrade of laying fibre and give everyone access to high speed internet, not just the city types"

I think its a good argument. Wouldn't there be more benefit for more people to have high speed internet to your house, than be able to get to London or Leeds any quicker?

With the way working habits are changing, people wanting a more flexible lifestyle and the way the internet is dominating more of our lives, I'd vote for a decent connection speed over a train trip to London
