That's It... 22nd December 2015 11:05 PM

Went out this evening around 7pm back home by 9:15....... Christmas shopping completed Dying to use the bathroom, I left the carrier bags on the living room floor and darted upstairs, shoots back down stairs only to find one of my cats had sniffed out the turkey had carefully cut the polythene wrapper and was happily tucking into a £25 turkey...... Size 9 boot with plenty of expletives being shouted, Scruff the cat is nowhere to be seen Luckily for me I don't eat turkey, anyway I've pulled the polythene back over the meat and put it in the fridge... Hopefully everyone who'll be tucking in will be fine....Just not sure whether to tell them or keep quiet...

A Criminal has no religion 22nd December 2015 5:14 PM

I sit on the fence when it comes to religion as I cannot make head nor tail of it. When I look back over my 50 odd years on this planet I really struggle to see how an almighty being can be looking down on us. If I were forced to pick a religion I'd probably side with the ancient Egyptians and worship the sun... as without it we're all dead, plus when it's 70 odd degrees it helps me flog solar panels......

BUS LANES INTO CYCLE SUPER HIGHWAYS 22nd December 2015 10:57 AM

Well in fairness to Hyde Park Stables when I'm working in their area I do see a couple of people following the horses on foot, shoveling up the stuff. Many of the cars in the area will be Bentley's, Mclaren's and Ferrari's and your odd van So not your normal working mans Ford Mondeo...

Will tell you who should contribute to be on the roads and be responsible for clearing up their mess - bloody horses!!! (well their riders)

How many times have you been driving down a road, big pile of horse shiii err manure and splat its all up the wing of your nice clean car !!!

Why are they not forced to clean up their mess like dog owners are?”

So 22nd December 2015 8:59 AM

Thanks Angela, looking back over the year it hasn't been all bad the first half was pretty good In comparison to many others on this planet especially those caught up in recent atrocities,  I've had a good year albeit somewhat eventful.....

Oh Barney, I hope next year is a lot less eventful for you!”

BUS LANES INTO CYCLE SUPER HIGHWAYS 22nd December 2015 2:43 AM

As a general rule you wont see children on bikes in Central London, in the suburbs you will. But in Central London if a child is on a bike the chances are the parents will be prosecuted for neglect..as it is just to high risk.

I've no problem with the Cycle super highways currently being constructed in London being built, but we've already invested heavily in purpose built cycle lanes currently painted blue or green and still not all cyclists will use them preferring to use the road instead. You'll come across cyclists riding six abreast making it difficult for other motorists to pass, you'll have cyclists coming up the inside, outside and cross right in front of your moving vehicle, you'll have some, in fact quite a lot all dressed in dark clothing with little or no lights, others will have flashing halogen lights which literally end up blinding drivers. I know many drivers now have the attitude that if want to ride like an idiot, so be it, but you pay the consequences. Cyclists will soon need to buck their ideas up, as the closer we get to driverless vehicles the more accidents I can see happening.

I would also suggest that the Highway code for cyclists is updated, making it perfectly clear, legally binding and with no grey areas about the rules of the road for cyclists, at the moment there is not a lot in it which cyclists thinks applies to them. I also think it is about time the Government considered making cyclists have some form of insurance. At the moment the odds are stacked against the driver, but very rarely in London will a motorist who is involved in a fatal collision with a cyclist be prosecuted......... Which would suggest that the driver is not at fault...

Did you realise you are supposed to overtake

And there lies the problem, most cyclists undertake and most lorries have blind spots...Have yet to see a lorry crushed underneath a bicycle.......

n power a disgrace 20th December 2015 11:42 PM

What I'm not understanding is, is according to your bill, your nearly £2k in credit at some point, yet your still paying them... sometimes 2 or 3 times a day... Why? Why did you pay £364 in the month of December 2013 when the majority of people are paying between say £45 - £70 a month for electricity. I know when you started this thread you said you only live in a flat, so to be paying £364.00 on an electricity bill a month... none of it is making much sense to me. Just out of interest why did you get the meter changed as this seems to be when the problem started and if you are all electric are you on a cheap rate tariff? If not why not?

n power a disgrace 20th December 2015 10:55 PM

I know it's not a laughing matter (I personally wouldn't pay it) but the good news is according to the bill, you're on their cheapest tariff....

Seriously though, I wouldn't pay it if you can prove that you've made regular bill payments and can prove that previous bills were always lower than they are now I cannot see how they won't back down. Your current bill should tally with the current meter reading, can you not work backwards to see where the discrepancy took place?

Tesco shares price drops 18th December 2015 6:55 PM

The problem is and it applies to all of the mainstream supermarkets, their customers have left them and they've all headed towards Aldi and Lidl, places where I thought I would never tread but now which I am quite happy to. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but there is a vast difference is pricing on certain products. I think when the likes of Tesco and co announce their trading results next year a further drop in profits will be announced plummeting the share price further....

I've got a mate just a bit older than me that bought a gaff recently using the shared equity scheme, where he owns half, and rents half. Can mean best of both worlds, feels like it's his, makes the mortgage accessible and has the option in the future to buy out the remainder so he will 100% own it.

Seems a good way to get onto the property ladder if raising a mortgage is a problem, at least you will benefit from any value increases.

I know someone else who did a similar thing a few years ago, but unfortunately her scheme only allows her to buy a set maximum amount of the equity, but never fully own it 100%. Know little about these schemes, but concept seems good, but I guess it check the small print and make sure you have the option to buy it completely. My mate bought his through www.orbit.org.uk and seems happy enough with the process.

Dunno if a viable option or worth investigating. By the time my kids have left school, then completed their 12 years military service, me and the missus will be brown bread or dribbling in a nursing home, so they can come home

I think generally the above is a good idea, the only issues I see with it is that I cannot see whoever owns the other percentage ever contributing towards any maintenance costs and when it comes to selling the market is limited to those only who like the shared ownership scheme...
