Becoming a Non Smoker 6th October 2016 7:05 PM

I do....

and I can't believe this thread is still running after all this time..

I am still not smoking (after 4.5 years), I do however depend on MLF to give me a little room for a moan now and then. It really does prevent any thought of relapse and the resumption of my smoking habit.

Today was a good day with very little drama

Tomorrow, I will be mostly in a local prison and expecting lots of moaning.

But its Friday  I may be smoke free but there will be alcohol, a fact I often share with serving prisoners. Some would argue that is cruel... I just think it is karma...

Oh and funny enough, I was thinking of you yesterday as I was handing over £62.50 to Staples for 2 measly pots of ink....

Can't believe you didn't message or email me for a price. We would definitely beat staples on any ink and toner product. We would also apply a 20% discount on our website prices to any MLF member.....

What Are You Listening To Now? 3rd October 2016 1:34 PM

Headphones on, sat at my desk writing another risk assessment advising the courts of all appropriate options when sentencing an unrepentant, arrogant and confrontational young man who thinks he can intimate and bully people into seeing things his way.

Unfortunately for him, 15 years of rugby league has beaten any and all fear of others out of me, so his charms have fallen on deaf ears....

anyhow, I am listening to pink floyd, endless river on Spotify. Chilled.....

Yes.... I go into McDonald's grab myself a handful of straws and suck on them...

After I stopped smoking, every McDonald's on the M62 and M1 became my new best friend.

My new goal in life is to lose the extra two stone in weight gain, supplied by McDonalds and encouraged by the lack of smoking... for the last 4.5 years

I'm a bit too pig headed just to chuck in the towel”

But did you stick with your reduction plan?

As a probation officer I can confirm that offenders do get confused about customer service.

An offender once told me how crap I was, adding he was going to write to trading standards and the probation ombudsman and have me sacked!

i was struck with worry for almost a nano second. Told him I was employed to serve and protect members if the general public, a group he was no longer a part of,

I politely suggested he may wish to go home a get his tooth brush. He was then returned to custody within a couple of hours for breach of his release licence. he didn't send me a Christmas card. He didn't complain and I didn't get sacked

i was very hurt by not getting a Christmas card. Oh well... The moral of the story, do your job to the best of your ability and you won't go far wrong.

Well having avoided this thread for 4 years and having started at the age of 12 some 42 years agO"
Keeping my fingers crossed,
like many others on the forum I will keep checking in to offer support and encouragement. It helped me to quit knowing that others were genuinely interested.
one day at a time.....
good luck
What Are You Listening To Now? 28th April 2016 12:20 AM

After a tough week at the coal face... Many hours debating, arguing and disagreeing with the most unpleasant, over paid and vile bunch of legal reprehensibles, oops, that should be representatives. I am now listening to my better half, who is in the land of nod obviously having better dreams than me.

Drink Driving 27th April 2016 11:58 PM

Well our friends accross the border in Scotland reduced the drink driving limit to 22mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. In England we are allowed 35mll.

The lower limit equates to less than 1 pint of normal strength beer. A few people either side of the border have been caught out by this change. Driving south you will pass the test, going north you could get a hefty fine and a 12 month ban if you have drunk a single pint.

here is my dilemma, if the scots are going to make their own laws in Scotland should they be allowed to ban me from driving in England if I blow under the 35ml English limit?

Is it fair to be the subject of differing criminal legislation in two distinct areas of the same country?

What happens if you get lost, take a wrong turn and accidentally wander up McJockey Face Sporan Pants road... Having consumed a whole pint of Cumbrians finest, would a poor sense of direction be a good defence.

Before anyone asks I don't drink and drive in any country  but in the course of my day job I have been given some great excuses that include "I thought the limit was only in force Monday to Friday" "I mixed my units and got confused between pints and litres" and my all time favourite "she said she would drive, the bitch got drunk so I had to drive us home even though she knew I was pissed" "how is that my fault"

Well up to 4 years and counting for me...

Best thing I ever did...

no matter how you arrive at the decision to quit, it must be done for one person.

yourself.
