the problem that i can see occurring, and something we agree on here, is that people will still attempt to put .com, .co.uk etc on the end. then they see the site doesnt exist, and think that its some sort of scam.

maybe when they become more widely known and better advertised, they may be worth the effort/time/money.
personally, i think a dedicated mobile site is not the way to go.

a responsive site, properly configured, will adapt to display size, which includes people who are using tiny monitors on their computers. using a mobile site also means that if somebody sends you a link from a mobile device, and you open it on a desktop, it may open in mobile form.

i find that last one particularly annoying

I must admit, this one passed me by, never even heard of it until now!

Looks nice, looks like an ipad but a bit thinner

"A7 Chip Desktop-class archtecture. No desktop required...."

Cobblers! They are great, but will never be a desk top replacement, regardless of their hype.

I've got an iPad2, the missus has got an iPad (the one after?) Which looks and feels exactly the same as mine. Apparently it's a better display, camera, faster etc, but tbh, I can't see any difference.

They are great for slobbing in front of the telly and casual surfing. Brilliant for showing off photos, and great at keeping the kids quiet when running cbeebies games.

But desktop replacement? In an office? Nahhhhh...... don't believe anyone genuinely has chucked their lappie in the bin or scrapped their pc and runs their business on an ipad

Am I wrong?

most certainly not

the naming convention alone is iffy:
ipad>ipad2>new ipad>iapd>ipad air
its like a porsche. small changes that can go unnoticed.

but i have seen people try to replace their desktop with an ipad. it was ajob interview for a marketing company, and he had a bluetooth keyboard with an ipad in a stand as a replacement for a laptop.

honestly im suprised they havent tried that old trick of claiming the thinnest device when there is one thinner (xperia tablet z).

anyway, its a new iPad, 7.5mm thick and weighs 1 pound. it has thinner bezels (something apple disliked due to less holding area) and 64bit "desktop class architecture" (marketing speak, its still an ARM based chip). twice as fast as the old one, so still behind androids in the same price bracket.

all in all, another iPad that will have another incremental feature in 6 months.

thoughts?

i know english most likely isn't his first language, but if he is claiming he 'now read and write in ingles, french spanisch and portuguese', he would at least manage something more legible.....

cmon, post his cv (minus name and contact of course).
Does god hate me? 15th October 2013 11:06 AM
i hate those weeks. you've got to get things done, but you feel like doing nothing at all.

hope you feel better soon
i think we need a good mix of both.

if we have all knowledge and no imagination, we have the ability, but no ideas.

with all imagination, we have idea, but no way to utilize them.

its either that or we collaborate and compensate for each others shortage of knowledge or imagination.
responsive design. it loads all of the same assets, which could be slow depending on your design, but changes the layout for certain screen sizes and user agent types. you can have the same site, and just add certain lines into the files that allows the page to detect size and browser, and change the layout accordingly. we designed a site that changes the layout completely to better suit a mobile or tablet without loading a whole different site.

design the site with this capability and you wont need to worry about "going mobile", because if somebody needs a different layout due to a certain type of phone or browser type, the page will adjust accordingly, and use the same page content.

i used to have pet rats. adorable little creatures. clean too, to most people's suprise.

but now i have a dog. called clyde. a 40KG germen sheprador (labrador retriever crossed german shepard). rehomed at the age of 4 (we think), and had him for about 6 months. completely mad and VERY attached and friendly.
imaging if the gps goes wrong...... youll wake up half way across the country, and it wont even be because of the booze.
