honestly im suprised they havent tried that old trick of claiming the thinnest device when there is one thinner (xperia tablet z).

anyway, its a new iPad, 7.5mm thick and weighs 1 pound. it has thinner bezels (something apple disliked due to less holding area) and 64bit "desktop class architecture" (marketing speak, its still an ARM based chip). twice as fast as the old one, so still behind androids in the same price bracket.

all in all, another iPad that will have another incremental feature in 6 months.

thoughts?

I must admit, this one passed me by, never even heard of it until now!

Looks nice, looks like an ipad but a bit thinner

"A7 Chip Desktop-class archtecture. No desktop required...."

Cobblers! They are great, but will never be a desk top replacement, regardless of their hype.

I've got an iPad2, the missus has got an iPad (the one after?) Which looks and feels exactly the same as mine. Apparently it's a better display, camera, faster etc, but tbh, I can't see any difference.

They are great for slobbing in front of the telly and casual surfing. Brilliant for showing off photos, and great at keeping the kids quiet when running cbeebies games.

But desktop replacement? In an office? Nahhhhh...... don't believe anyone genuinely has chucked their lappie in the bin or scrapped their pc and runs their business on an ipad

Am I wrong?

most certainly not

the naming convention alone is iffy:
ipad>ipad2>new ipad>iapd>ipad air
its like a porsche. small changes that can go unnoticed.

but i have seen people try to replace their desktop with an ipad. it was ajob interview for a marketing company, and he had a bluetooth keyboard with an ipad in a stand as a replacement for a laptop.

Yes - well soon.

I must admit I agreed with you but a work colleague was stating that there were only a couple of things he couldn't do on his iPad that he could do on his laptop. Because there is an app - apparently - for most things, though maybe he doesn't actually do much!

I guess it depends on the type of business, or maybe our age? Not seen what accessories you can get for an ipad, as in external port connectors, but I couldn't survive without 2 screens, and the ipad one is too small for work, that's even if you can split screen it at all?

I'd also need an external keyboard, which you can get, but I find it much more productive and quicker to use a mouse than dragging my sticky fingers around the screen, and having to clean it every day.

No doubt there are compatible alternatives, or maybe an app, but can I run MS office on an ipad and open up my spreadsheets (plus staying secure rather having a 3rd party app open them).

Even accessing our own backend admin panel is hardwork without a mouse, as my fat fingers tend to open the wrong button. Could you run your accounts on an ipad? Certainly wouldn't entrust that to a 3rd party app

So personally I can't imagine it, unless maybe you run an offline business, and just need an occasional browser access.

But always happy to be proven wrong, so anyone running their empire from an ipad or other tablet?
