Not sure about the detail (the government isn't either! ... I think it only affects those who rent (likely to be around half the population soon) and also claim Housing Benefit (or any of the other "working age" benefits).
I feel a rant coming on ....

The bedroom tax ... it'll drive thousands into debt, nervous breakdowns and homelessness. They could be employed, unemployed, disabled, lone parents and couples where one partner is under pensioner age, one over pensioner age - doesn't matter, they'll all suffer.

Unless there are mass suicides, it'll drive up the costs of social security (it costs a hell of a lot more to house a family that can't now afford its low-cost social housing into B & B accommodation or privately rented accommodation). It'll result in massive increases in legal costs for local authorities, housing associations and landlords - maybe the judges will be able to stop the "can't pays" from being evicted.

It's difficult to think of a policy that's more cruel and more pointless .
Any thoughts on a SIPP pension ? 3rd April 2013 4:59 PM
Go on then ... tell us (or just me?) what a SIPP pension actually is.

There's a connection between the bunny's blindfold and the second topic, right?
Stolen content 19th March 2013 10:19 PM
I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you the procedures to follow for stopping another site from using your content.

If it were me, though, I'd first want to decide whether the business harm done by the "scraping" is significant enough to go to the bother of stopping it.

The search engines "know" where content was first authored so in theory the "scraper" won't improve his site's position by "scraping".
Agreed. I was in a business meeting once and the VIP speaking asked irately "What's the answer?". "42" Andrew and I chorused, to his complete bafflement.
You say you weren't told by the salesman about these terms and conditions.

Have you (and Trading Standards) already gone through the written contract with a fine tooth comb to check it actually says what they say it says, plse? I feel a bit embarrassed asking you the question - but it's just possible you've some wriggle room that no-one has spotted yet.

Next thought is that it might be worthwhile arranging a brief session with a solicitor to see whether he / she can spot any good options for you. Are there any solicitors near you which provide a free 30 minute session for business clients as well as individual ones?

If the terms and conditions are hidden away in the smallest of small print, it might be worthwhile talking to any trade association to which the merchant rentals company belongs. The trade association might be able to negotiate a better deal for you.

Good luck! Linda
Don't have very strong feelings about Air Passenger Duty but:-

- when we've only got around 20 years before we reach tipping point on world climate change, any tax which reduces the amount of flying done is A Good Thing

- the tax mainly hits those with the means to pay (which makes a very nice change!) rather than middle and low income people

- I can't think of any new tax that would hurt less to replace it (the UK can't afford to give up
How to link build correctly? 20th February 2013 3:51 PM
I don't have a link building strategy as such but my site benefits, I feel, from the work I do as "the career expert" and "job search expert" on closely related (but not directly competitive) sites. I get quite a lot of visits because of it (sales not so many, sadly ).

it seems to me this is an approach all of us service providers could use to our advantage.
Social Cleansing! 18th February 2013 10:05 AM
From today's Independent ...

Leeds tenants (Hands Off Our Homes) are organising a fight back against the bedroom tax. One of the group is a retired lawyer.

There are legal challenges led by the Public Interest Lawyers against 5 London District Councils; I can't remember whether the action's against the Councils extending Council Tax liablity to everyone previously accepted as too poor to pay or against the bedroom tax.
