Sully - the Miracle on the Hudson 21st December 2016 2:48 PM

One minor thing that bugged me though was the rings on Tom Hanks's fingers kept swapping over.  Wedding ring moved from left to right and back again, as did a decorative signet ring....”

Thats just sloppy continuity, but also bad on Tom Hanks's part. Really should know which finger to wear a wedding ring !

Ubers nail biting business model 12th December 2016 4:36 PM

At £2bn loss - can't see them lasting 10 years - thats an eye watering £20bn (i'm good at maths  ) if they carry on the same losses as last year !

Boxing Day shopping ban? 12th December 2016 4:13 PM

Was reading earlier that MP's will be debating later whether to impose a ban on shops opening on Boxing Day as more than 100,000  people online signed an e-petition triggering the automatic debate.

If you run a store, how would you feel being told you could not open?

The argument for the closure is that people need more time off. The argument against is that Boxing Day sales are one of the busiest days for stores.

I used to work part-time in the restaurant trade - Christmas Day to me meant mega pay days, earning 4x the usual rate plus 2 days off in lieu. No idea what the current rules are but as its Bank Holiday, imagine at least TOIL would come in to effect?

Over reaction or are people genuinely working too many hours over the Christmas break?

Sully - the Miracle on the Hudson 8th December 2016 1:47 PM

I remember this event and also the media hype thereafter.

Haven't seen the film yet, not sure i will, i wonder if the twist surrounds Sully and his alleged celeb status and how he conducted himself during & following the investigation. I also remember rumours about his co-pilot not being 100% behind his actions... allegations, rumours & the usual gutter press reporting what they like - perfect recipe for a block buster

Airline charges to use overhead lockers 8th December 2016 1:42 PM

Why not?

Think its a great idea - pay for what you want to use, or don't as the case maybe.

Lack of Customer Service 8th December 2016 1:27 PM

Don't even get me started on Argos

In short, ordered something online 3 weeks ago, delivery promised on Black Friday, no show and oh it was my fault for asking for delivery on that Friday !! I could go in to a very long story but received it yesterday after no less than 4 failed attempts & 8 calls to resolve it.

Ok i got a discount but thats not the point, would rather had excellent service and the item delivered when promised than having to waste 8 lunchtimes messing about with their so called customer service reps.

Shall have to seriously think about if i EVER want to use them again, such was the poor level of service

Airline scraps credit card fees 8th December 2016 1:22 PM

Thomson still wanted 1.5% when i booked with them recently so i simply used my debit card.

Mind you on the flip side, i'd rather be told that i was going to be charged against them "absorbing" the cost and merely passing it on to me behind the scenes.

Buying a small cleaning business 18th November 2016 11:08 AM

I think there are many different formulas to working out the right price.

I was involved in the buy out of another company with my previous employer and whilst i was not actually involved in the financials i did hear some of the negotiations.

It should be based on profit, not turnover and you pay a percentage of the profit over (in their case) a 2 year period.

You are probably better off talking this through with an accountant though as they will be better placed to help.
