Holiday? What is a holiday lol?

Not had one of those for 4 years maybe I should go back to working for other people I had 3-4 a year then lol.

On a serious note, with the travel industry it is an inevitable impact of the economy and reduced travel abroad over the last 2 years, all these businesses are fighting hard to survive and there will be more gone before the month is out (if my close friend who works for another fairly big budget airline is right)

It sounds bad for jobs but where one door closes another opens, the UK travel industry has seen 2 great summer periods for bookings (if not weather) and this has created jobs which count toward filling the gaps left from the travel companies. It also keeps valuable spend within the UK which we cannot under estimate.

I believe we all contribute either to the collapse, or the re-incarnation of our economy with our attitude toward "getting on with it with confidence".

In the last 2 years there have been more new companies incorporated than at anytime in the last 25 years and with a greater degree of survival through the first 12 months than ever before. This says to me that the current climate has created more of US, the backbone of britain, the SME's that are flexible, skilled and competitive in times of tough competition.

Beware any government who alienates this business group in this climate as we are the leaders of the future they will run to us consult on policy not too long from now.!

I feel for the people who have been effected and lost money, but at this point in time we all take a risk of this when booking with any of the smaller player who dont have the cash reserves to manage through this period.

Pay Per Click (PPC) 19th August 2010 12:14 AM
I agree in the main with Steve, have used PPC for years and had mixed results on the whole. Main reason for mixed rather than all positive is the product set at previous companies. I just dont think PPC is the right medium for businesses that make transactional based sales. i.e. if you sell laptops forget it unless you are ebuyer. It takes for to many clicks to generate a sale regardless of how good the site is as it is totally price led. You make
.fam and .family both are pushing forward as well (though I just have to wonder how many adult related sites are going to end up on those at the end of the day).

Very good point, its going to happen porn sites get everywhere.. No issue with adult sites for mature adults but far more needs to be done to avoid children gaining access to this content..

Optimising your website for Bing 17th August 2010 10:43 PM
Very interesting Steve thanks.. I would say it I agree with you. For example our latest site cloud4 Computers, has been live for 3 weeks and we have already been indexed, and over the last couple of days received 16 organic visits from Bing, Zero from Google as we're still not even indexed..

The other thing I have noticed about hits from Bing across our other company site is a dramatically lower bounce rate for the same pages than google. Average google bounce 54%, Bing 18.6%. Even if you factored in the additional volume form google the quality of hit from Bing seems to be far superior, long time one site, more pages per visit etc..

So Bing,, watch this space.

Looking for a bulk email sender 14th August 2010 12:49 AM
We were looking for something that ran from our servers too but opted for mailchimp instead for lots of good reasons. compliance, functionailtity etc. We send approx 50k mails per week and get great results from mailchimp so no reason to change..

Everybody online by 2012? 13th August 2010 11:38 PM
Poverty and state assisitance to me means putting bread on the table, ensuring the kids are clothed and go to school, not paying for a sky dish or a broadband connection

I don't think anyones died yet of lack of internet.... or is this stage 1 of the matrix?

I see what your saying here Steve, but on a slightly higher level than life or death, we have been lucky enough to be part of the Home Access programme which helped us provide laptops and internet access to poor families with children between 7 and 14 who otherwise would have no acces to the internet.

The fact is that children in households that have rady access to computers and the internet at home, acheive a 2 point grade average at GCSE level than thouse who dont. a D instead of B which can have a big impact on the future prospect of young people and what type of adults they become.

For poor families it is also proved that those families that regularly use the internet to search for the things they need, from utilities to clothing, save around
