"Official approval has been given for the creation of an internet domain dedicated to pornography.

The board of net overseer Icann gave initial approval for the creation of the .xxx domain at its conference in Brussels.

Icann's approval will kick off a fast-track process to get the porn-only domain set up.

ICM Registry, which is backing the domain, said .xxx would make it easier to filter out inappropriate content."

BBC News - Sex domain gets official approval

Now I've seen it all. Although if Google dumps non .xxx from it's index, it would make family friendly filters a lot easier!

Between the non Latin character domains, and now some "interesting" tlds like that (also seen efforts for: .sex among others) , definitely becoming more interesting on the web.

.fam and .family both are pushing forward as well (though I just have to wonder how many adult related sites are going to end up on those at the end of the day).

Very good point, its going to happen porn sites get everywhere.. No issue with adult sites for mature adults but far more needs to be done to avoid children gaining access to this content..

just think of all the posibilities for reverse spam popping up in in the porn searches then! people will be making sites with thier affilliate ads in them and just copying the site on a .xxx tld just to get clicks....

another prediction is if this does happen... i bet the porn industry acts a lot more quickly to combat spam than weve seen in the past!

YOU PEOPLE...

Easy on the tone there. you have bundled everyone into the same category. a little rude and inappropriate of YOU PEOPLE! don't YOU think.

  • 25% of total search engine requests are porn-related. (Top three searches: sex, mp3 and hotmail.)
  • 8% of total emails are porn-related. Average daily pornographic emails are 4.5 per internet user
  • 12% of total websites are pornographic

You will not stop porn, so instead of trying to ignore it at least this was you can restrict .XXX and prevent children from stumbling across it.

Because sex domains creating bad impression on you people.

I'm guessing, this was a typo, the poster meant "Young People"

But your right, you wont stop porn, so maybe enforced xxx domains and decent filtering are the way forward.
