A little more than 3 months down the line and SEO is still going strong, so I am already inclined to believe that it will still be here no matter what, but maybe with a few interesting modifications.

@Chloe Taylor, that's just it, tis a trend. And IMHO one that might just be short lived, or changed radically at some point. There are just too many SEO "gurus" out there exploiting social media, and twitter is a prime example. I have ranted and raved about it all at some point, but one thing remains true, more and more people are joining twitter and using /abusing it to place links. (all IMHO of course). In the end, most twitter profiles can be reduced to nothing more than pages and pages of links. of which either twitter itself or members will tire of and either do something about it, or leave twitter (members). I know I have contemplated that many times when I log in and all I see are links.

SEO might be vital to getting a site noticed and it might also be vital to get you past your competition, but dang it, what happened to promoting a business or product using social media. IE talking to people, promoting a product and not a web site. Giving existing and potential clients more to look at than a link to a blog, or a website. There are a lot of blurry lines in this all, and it gets even more blurry day by day. SEO is important, but is not the big picture, and I seem to think that this is where many IM's (especially new ones) lose their focus on that bigger picture is.
I hope we use seo technique for top ranking not one tool help you for promoting your web page. some that use for checking your domain status like Soequake use for checking pr domain age links etc.

Have a look at the post, it will show you a list of the tools. These are mainly basic everyday tools that many internet marketers use. With the added benefit of a few more that we didn't know about.
And I thought strawberry jam was only good on toast Let me know how it works out though with the others, I might use them myself, when i get things reorganized.

Creating twitter and facebook accounts are the first steps, now you need to keep it active. If you have a fan page, work on it, and try get it out for the world to see. You can add facebook like boxes to blogs and sites, so if someone visits your site, they can like it there and it will show up on your FB fanpage (or profile).

With twitter though, you can set it to tweet links when you write a new blog post. I know wordpress can do this (wordpress hosted for definite), so when its set up, all you need to do is hit publish, and WP publishes the site to every social network you have set up.

A bit of advice though, don't make every post or tweet be cold calling and hard sell. Don't just tweet one link after the other either, the same with facebook. Take the time to try be part of it all, try talking to people and giving them the opportunity to be able to engage with you. People value that more than looking at link after link.

Good luck with your SMO campaign, I hope it works out well.

You should use Social Media Optimization. In Social Media optimization like Social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.. etc have huge number of users on their websites, when you join them and post your links on their relevant posts, they help to increase the traffic of your website. You can post images, description, links.. etc in Social networking websites.
You can use Adwords services of Search engines and Social Networking websites.

I have a few small questions. Optimizing your company name on something like twitter and the odd bits of information, I understand that, but posting links on relevant posts? On facebook I can understand, because you can like and comment people status and photos etc. You would then use the comment to post your link. How would you do that on twitter and LinkedIn though. Also, how would you post an image in twitter so you can optimize it?

There are many ways to get traffic yes, and social media is one that can give you s good boost, but how long would you be able to flit around facebook posting links before someone reports you and FB gives you the boot?
Olympics business impact 23rd February 2012 8:09 AM
Most of the work for this project went to foreigners, any local businesses in the area that were in the way were forced to close. Most people I know are dreading the idea, more so now because of the financial climate, They've built another multi shopping complex bragging that they've created another 20,000 jobs although at the expense of all the local shops that have been around for years. As for the roads, they may well have built a new 4 lane one way system around Stratford but the majority of Londons roads are still stuck in the same centuary as Londons sewage system and that can't cope either.....And that's why you don't go swimming in the Thames.

Seriously? We had a few concerns about that, but in the end it wasn't all that bad. I'm not one for swimming in rivers though, its overcrowded . As for traffic, we did have a few modifications done to roads and highways etc.
I can imagine the scene with the mall though, it would have been better to just have shops in the areas renovated or enlarged, then they could still create more jobs, and other businesses wouldn't suffer as much, but that would still impact business owners having to pay for it all I guess.
