Is it helpful? Yes. Why do we do social media? Because it's where our customers are partners are. Being an online business its important to communicate in appropriate channels. Social platforms are a very popular channel so we particptae to engage, learn and (where appropriate) promote our service.
PCI DSS Compliance - are you? 15th October 2012 11:40 AM
Becoming PCI compliant can be a very challenging task for online businessesas many busiensses are unsure of what compliance level they need and how to best tackle it. To manage it in house can drain your resources and as hackers get more creative the PCI council regularly introduce new checks and procedures that need to be adhered to. This why many online businesses partner with a PCI level 1 accredited provider to take the headache away. Although many businesses think that this means they are automatically compliant. However they will still need to fill out a Self Assessment Questionaire form (SAQ).

Although what may seem like a headache for online businesses, it is necessary. We have read about major breaches where a hacker has compromised a businesses server and gotten access to card data. This can do a lot of damage to a business both to its finance and reputation. Trust plays a very big part in e-commerce and a negative experience like having your card data compromised can mean that customer is lost forever.

This ones raised it's head from time to time, but until now we've never been forced to do it.

The PCI Data Security Standard provides a worldwide framework for all credit card transactions from websites and card readers. If you take card payments, then the chances are you need to be compliant.

Our card payment processor, Streamline has just told us we need to be compliant by the 1st October otherwise its a
Agreed - It really depends on the sector or TA you are targetting and where you are targetting them. If is just in general then I suggest choose something that you know will get used. We have given away branded pens, mints, USBs, corporate folders purely as they we have had feedback that they get used. If you are a printing company then think about what best will represent your company.

I suppose another question is what do you want them for? ie a particular event, such as a business show, or just for general use?

We went well over the top when we decided to do a large Business show years ago. We had logo'd umbrellas, keyrings, whistles (what were we thinking!), baseball caps, badges, balloons and enough sweets to rot the teeth of Birmingham. On the larger scale it was liveried taxis and a radio campaign.

In hindsight we spent far too much, bought completely the wrong kind of products, and if anyone wants 5000 decaying yellow whistles, let me know

Moral of the story, think long and hard about what you want, and don't go mad! Cost versus reward and all that good stuff

I run an online payments and e-commerce blog and welcome new guest posters as long as the content is relevant to e-commerce businesses. I think it can open up your audience and attract new readers and raise some really important points. Not to mention save me a bit of time. As long as the posts are relevant, non salesy and non spammy I think guest posters can add real value to your blog. Plus the post will get extra promotion which cannot be a bad thing.

Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to contribute to our blog...
Hi

It is interesting but Mobile Commerce is booming everywhere! All of the publications I subscribe to are all talking mobile, mobile, mobile, but the difference is that now, compared to the last few years, people are actually starting to spend and growth is showing no signs of slowing down. It's become much more than a just talking point.

Very interesting reading though...

Olympic Ceremony Feedback 3rd August 2012 1:34 PM
Thoroughly enjoyed it and I feel the British personality shined through. And what about the lighting of the cauldron - AMAZING.

Lol! Naughty! I loved it but had to give up and go to bed after Sir Geriatric sang! Being a 'bit of a geriatric' myself and needing to be up in the morning to teach dance classes to other geriatrics.
I enjoyed the History lesson, I think it may have confused some attendees though, and not just foreign visitors! Kamikazicowgirl

Hi Lucy

There are a number of activities that will help you get more traffic to your site such as optimising your site for your key words (titles, descriptions), pushing out content with your key words (with links back to your site) sharing news from your site or blog on social networks, affiliate marketing (people in your industry referring traffic to your site with by having a banner or link on their site, ppc (pay to rank high on certain key words in search engines and PR - pushing out content in publications relevant to your target audience.

Some ways will work better than others so it is good to test and regularly track your progress.

Best of luck

I think the main thing with your blog is to write for your customer and provide them with the additional information they they might find interesting. Also remember to update your blog regularly with fresh content so there is no negative affect on its search engine rankings.
