Google Instant Previews! 10th November 2010 1:00 PM I have been using the FF add on Google Preview for some time. For me it's one of the essential add ons. It just makes the search or trawling through process faster. Social Sunday 8th November 2010 8:20 PM Good on you. Sounds a like a good plan. It's always good to switch off. At the moment, something always pops up for me and this Sunday was worse than normal. However, I spent Saturday being social. ![]() Clipart Images 5th November 2010 10:00 PM Mary, I just looked at your site. Really nice, I genuinely like it. I might also be interested in your services. "Might" is the keyword. It all depends. I assume MLF members get a discount. ![]() I have had a quick browse through your site. Let me know how you work etc. Ryan Clipart Images 5th November 2010 7:24 PM Look forward to seeing your new site...definitely exciting. I think you've done well with this site. I obviously don't know the membership details...but whatever you do make it user friendly. What I know from another forum, they took a gamble and ended up making it less user friendly, they lost people in the process, and most of them never returned. Clipart Images 5th November 2010 8:40 AM Kip/Steve, I agree with you both. I am creating very simple beginners guide to some subjects on IT. It's all very introductory level stuff, but as we are dealing small businesses, not everybody understands what a server/workgroup is and so on. I wanted to use some pictures and diagrams, I didn't want to use things like Visio. Although I have created some of the guides, I have not used any clipart images on purpose. My gut instinct said they just didn't work. I will probably commision someone to do some artwork for me. I will probably get them all done at once, when I have all the guides done. So, thanks for confirming my suspicions. Mary, I will check out your recommendation. On a seperate note, in the 2/3 weeks this site has been live, it has already started coverting more than the previous one. Hopefully it will sustain and continue to develop. It goes to show, that investments in websites can make financial sense and can give you ROI. It was a stressful process, but I would not like to go through it again. Saying that, I may soon have 2 other potential sites in development...never learn. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the early developments stages of this site...we didn't always agree...a lot of what Steve and Kip and various other people said was very constructive, I tried to implement different parts of the feedback (where possible). Online Business finally comes of age.... 31st October 2010 10:55 PM Theres a challenge for you. ![]() I saw an opportunity the other day. Everybody was offering their services more or less free. Hope this does not make me sound like a bad person, but I don't want to give up an hour of my time before charging. I don't like working for free. And I pay my guys so, I have to charge. I also prefer to be straight and say I would charge. It may also be because I am in a situation where, I am only going after clients that come and find us....this is constantly changing and evolving. The cynical me thinks that some of this online lark is also driving down prices. I suppose it works in both way. Jag XF 31st October 2010 9:26 PM Phil...put it this way...when was the last time you saw a BM and turned your head. BM's are fabulous cars, but they are everywhere. Even the M6, my personal favourite, is everywhere. The last time I saw one of the new Jags, I did turn to take a second look. Now, I don't drive cars anymore, unless I borrow the wifes. So, my opinion now is as a bystander. I am also very old fashioned, I buy everything, apart from the house cash, so, when it comes to things I love, I throw depreciation out the window. That's just me. So my normal financial commonsense does not come it play. Recommend an SEO person 31st October 2010 7:08 PM I respect your view. Some people did like the original. But design is a matter of taste. This site works towards what I am trying to achieve. Regarding the other matter, again I respect your view, but my approach is completely different. I am not saying mine is right and yours is wrong...each to his own. I don't see most of the other small IT Support Companies as threats or competition in the way that some people do. Firstly, there is plenty of business out there for everyone. I actually work and collaborate with some of smaller IT Support companies like mine. Some people find my approach refreshing, others are cautious. But the way I look at it, our competitors are often the bigger companies. And we have united forces or collaborated on projects/shared knowledge, we have always won. I am 90% glass full person. Recommend an SEO person 31st October 2010 6:37 PM That's your view. But I would assume most people would not have hesitation in recommending a good person in anything. I also did not aim that post at seo recommendation, I also asked people in the seo industry to apply. I have used many services through forum recommendations or through posts. So far 99% have been good people. My accountant is through the forums, my website designer is through the forums, graphic/website designer (kip) is also through the forum, and few other services. So far it's worked out for me. If Kip or Steve said to me I would recommend this guy, then I would give serious thought to it. I could see some people wanting to hold on to so called business secrets. But we are all small businesses, otherwise we would not be on these forums. Also I have recommended my accountant to a number of people through the forums with no financial gain. I wasn't worried that he might get busy and stop looking after me. That's just me. My business is IT Services, all my other sites, are just dummy sites for now. You will see that they are not finished, contents missing. If anyone ever wants to buy them, then they will be sold. I am just letting it sit. On a seperate note, I know you did not like my site design that much before...what do you think now? |
