Can anybody say that they are genuinely surprised.

Personally I don't see Facebooks financial model for success. Market research and intelligence its priceless, but the advertising mode that they expect to financially rule the world with is fundamentally flawed. The moment they start crossing the barrier with advertising and intrude into users personal space to much is the moment they start to face serious problems, and I predict that eventually they will have to give into shareholders demands for profit and try and ramp up the advertising element in everyone account.

Hi there,

What do you mean "Not located in the US and that's why there's no gap"

Are you saying not being in the US is positive or negative?

Being based in the same location is a major selling point for service providers especially for marketing services.

If you not based in the same location then you need to offer a distinct advantage to people working with you.

Business in general at the moment is even more competitive than ever, the economic climate means that people are trying to maximise on efficiency and winning business so you just need to make sure you stand out from the crowd.

Specifically if your just sending emails touting for business you may be hard pressed to find success. Its preferable to ring people and close deals that way, or even better arrange appointments to sit down with people.
Long time no see folks.

Haven't checked in here for ages, got a new job again. Two jobs in 1 year hopefully this works out. The people seem alot nicer this time round and its closer to home, wish me luck
Wow that's absolutely brilliant, Scares me when I think about the fact that I've being watching this program after school or work for the best part of 20 years.
I'd agree hugely with the person above that mentioned telemarketing, I probably find telemarketing the most offensive of sales approaches. I find telemarketers in many instance have no regard of what you were previously doing before they called or the fact that you were busy, 7 out of ten don't ask if its convenient to talk, I'll be honest the ones that are courteous I do give them the opportunity to give me there best pitch, despite this there hasn't been one of them that has made me separate from my hard earned cash.

I much prefer somebody to knock on my door and approach me, I find it much easier to say that I'm not interested and in the event that you are interested its much easier to get the information you need and have a good face to face with the person, on the occasions that they have been genuinely good products and the rep knew his stuff I have been known to place a order with a door to door sales person.

Again as said above it really depends on the nature of the product or service, if somebody gave me a telemarketing call to sell me a car or a mortgage they would receive an absolute rejection. However if they were selling a knife set there's a much higher chance I would be receptive.
Internal HR People 30th April 2012 9:52 AM
Happy Monday,

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

I was thinking over the weekend about the number of small businesses there are in the UK and the number of those small businesses that have internal HR People. In hindsight I say all of the SME's that I've worked for bar 1 didn't have a fully complaint HR policy and the one that did only had one because it was recently bought out by a large global firm.

I just want to get everyone else's opinions from their current positions and past jobs.

Do we only pay attention to proper compliment HR when something goes wrong ?

Hahahahah

Gutted I've only just seen this post now.

Mike you are absolutely brilliant.

Unfortunately there are a ridiculous amount of unscrupulous people around, no surprises if this "consultant" recommended they get the risk assessment from a company that he/she was closely affiliated with.

Sadly I've been on the other side of the coin too, working in sales, appointment setting, and some of these situations are real boiler room environments where people that are otherwise respectable and decent are willing to do whatever it takes to meet their sales quota (Not defending them, its just the other side of the coin !).
2011 Changes to Personal Injury Law 4th April 2012 11:01 AM
Interesting article,

Its seems that in a attempt to make a more balanced systems there may be many people that actually end up at a disadvantage. The concept of no-win no fee itself is excellent, but lawyers shouldn't be walking away with the lions share of any successful claims. Whilst reducing the profit on the lawyers side should equal a more just system, the big consequence is that lawyers will be less incentivised to take on a case in the first place meaning that the person with a valid claim may still end up losing out.

We cant forget that whilst lawyers are people just trying to make a living there is a thin line between making a living and greed, its a broad statement to make but I don't think most lawyers are in the profession solely to help people. Perhaps the answer is a system of incentives that aren't money orientated ?

Thoughts anyone ?
Could KFC run out of steam? 3rd April 2012 9:48 AM
I most definately have shared your experience of poor quality KFC burgers (I think part of the problem of this is the shear size of burgers like the zinger, and zinger tower burger).

In the UK KFC are trying to slightly redefine their image, they have adverts on TV with young women at home eating KFC. Unfortunately this is a highly unrealistic approach on a target market that I think KFC doesn't really understand. Young women these days a massively weight and health conscious so instead of trying to plug the same types of food that they feed to the man that doesn't care what he eats why not try a different angle. To the best of my knowledge KFC doesn't have any salad orientated options which is a major mistake considering the bad rap that fast food has received in the last few years.

At the moment I go to KFC when I feel like something that is a bit dirty, and can be ordered by the bucket load
