Thumbs up for Amazon!

As much as I'd like to support local shops, I often purchase from Amazon as they provide the cheapest and easiest options.

I received a parcel containing some items for gifts the other day. One of the books arrived with the cover damaged. I thought that it was going to be a hoohah arranging returning it and re-ordering. So, I emailed Amazon customer services, explaining that I would just like a replacement cover for the book, as I am too busy to pack and return the book.

I received a very speedy apologetic reply, saying that they would rush me through a replacement book, and that I don't need to return the one with the damaged cover, but donate it to a charity if I wish. How good's that? There are real human beings at Amazon, after all. Thank you, Amazon. Great customer service.

I totally agree with you, Steve. It's not a good look now, so it certainly won't be attractive when they are in their old peoples' homes.

I take it the pic is of Cheryl Cole (?) That won't look too pretty when it's all saggy and wrinkly either. I heard that her Mum wasn't too impressed, and asked her why she'd done it. Strange that Mum wasn't too bothered when she punched a toilet attendant in the eye!

Oh dear, are you sure? Although, I understand she is popular.
TV presenters 19th July 2013 12:28 PM
A good TV presenter brings the subject to life. Some programmes would be much better, had they have chosen a good presenter. Similarly, some presenters are so good, that they make the dullest of subjects interesting. Just wondering which presenters you rate highly, and tend to watch whatever subject they present.

A few on my list would be:

Simon Reeve
Brian Cox
Ellie Harrison
Ade Edmondson
Startled taxi driver 2nd July 2013 9:43 AM
This is a true story from the pages of the Manchester Evening Times.

Last Wednesday, a passenger in a taxi heading for Salford Station leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.

The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the driver quietly asked, "are you OK? I'm so sorry, but you scared the living daylights out of me."

The badly shaken passenger apologised to the driver and said, "I didn't realise that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly."

The driver replied, "No, no, I'm the one who is sorry, it's entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab... I've been driving a he**** for 25 years."

(Editing won't allow "he****" - so please replace with "coffin transporter")

Grand Canyon Crossed By Tightrope Walker
If I ever get a chance I usually give Head Records a mention. Small semi-indie record stores dotted around the UK. I know there are ones in Bath, Lemington Spa and Belfast. Visited the Belfast store and they told me about the others.

Sell CD's, DVD's and most importantly Vinyl. Staff all actually know what they're talking about which is nice.

(I know that sounds like an ad for them, but it's nice going into a record store where the staff are actually attentive...not always the case).

Hello Holders

It's good to meet another fan of vinyl here.

More importantly, it's good to see that you support the smaller shops, rather than the big boys.
Favourite Movies? 17th June 2013 1:21 PM
And if you're looking something light, The Three Amigos is very funny.

Any movie that Steve Martin is in is usually excellent. Favourites include The Jerk, The Man with two Brains, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I've just bought the new Stereophonics album, using a 10% discount voucher from HMV. Loving the title track "Graffiti on the Train", and looking forward to hearing the whole CD whilst driving home from work this afternoon.

I was happy to support our local HMV, and hope they manage to claw back their business.

Right now, I'm listening to Kodaline's "Love like This" on XFM . The album's out next Monday, and I shall have to buy that too.
