Really? You mean he should think to himself:

"I might lose my job/career if I go ahead and rape this girl. Hmmm, I guess i'd better not then".

The role model thing is just a nonsense, agree they are not all role models at all however, i can see what they mean is kids look up to and aspire to be them. In which case, all that are violent, death by dangerous driving, alcoholics, etc, should be also stopped from playing again.

But they also do this with other professionals too, its just not in the media, for example, once a policeman, teacher, nurse or prison officer is fired after being found guilty of an offence they are also not allowed back into their profession. Sure, these are civil service jobs but likewise, you won't ever see those disgraced politicians, social service managers (babyP), council leaders (Rotherham guy who had to resign after much kaffuffle springs to mind) ever get a job in their same sectors again. But cos they're not in a media hyped job and are essentially a nobody as such, the media don't report on it and keep it in the news. That said mind, those folk don't even try to go back to their job.

However, what would happen should his conviction be overturned? Watch all the hypocrites and the 'I always thought he never done it' crowd surface, and all the media interviews, magazines, etc. wanting to hear his side....all of a sudden.

When you read his side, sure, it doesn't read right, or make sense. Would prefer to see such a conviction with more concrete evidence.

When the competition gets dirty... 15th December 2014 12:37 PM

All the web design companies where we are have a respectful relationship. We sometimes get each others customers, for various reasons of moving on, and often you find a customer that has fallen out with their last web designer moves on more often as they get ditched by each web designer. Luckily I think most of us know this and occasionally we have said "good luck" to each other with a difficult client they or we have taken on. We don't fall out because we have taken on a customer of theirs, or lost one to them.

Did you receive my email last night Steve?

Can we send PM's now? Just want a website checking by a random other person.

How to promote your business 9th December 2014 9:19 PM

I would advise you get a .co.uk for the website's main domain name and then if you want to get the .com, point the .com to the .co.uk (and not the other way around).

Don't do your own website if it means making a pigs ear of it. DIY sites - Keep it simple and clean, one font style and colour, neat paragraphs of content, spell-checked, and with only relevant and good quality images even if they are stock ones to start with. Most DOY sites get overcooked in an effort to make it look good and end up making a mess of it then it looks home spun.

Would you turn up to a customers house with a t-shirt with gravy down it? No. Make an effort to present your business as a business that is not cutting corners as psychologically that IS the message you send when you use cheap tat like a badly designed website.

"If he's cutting corners in his own business, what is he gonna cut corners on with my roof?" is what the customer may think. Don't give them the chance to think that.

So did Shrien Dewani do it? Do we care? 9th December 2014 9:09 PM

There's a programme on tomorrow night about that guy who was accused of murdering that girl in Bristol 4 years ago, think is name was Ian Jefferies. Anyway, though that was a lot shorter process as he didn't claim a mental illness which is what dragged it out for 4 years, but it goes to show that, depending how you are shown it from the media's point of view, of how people can quickly be made to jump to a conclusion then thereafter, it's pretty hard to change that mindset. Everyone has only been fed one set of information and it's been largely one sided yet never until now as anyone bleated on about how their stories never tied up to facts, etc. Though fair do's, that's perhaps never been made quite so clear as it has been this week but none the less, the media requires a sensational output so its more exciting to point out a potential killer than to point out a potential victim. Personally I feel that the media should only be allowed to name people publicly until found guilty after a judgement. By the time many people are found innocent their lives are ruined by the media.

Hi folks, is there anyone around who has Windows 7 and IE 11 installed?

Of course business cards are still very much in use. Obviously if your business is mostly online and or you don't go out meeting people face to face then you don't need them, but it's not very professional to go networking or client meetings without them, minus the occasional printing delay mishap as can happen.

For the sake of a few quid to say "Google me" is a lazy and skinflint cop-out used by folk not willing to invest in their brand/business, or worse, do not even understand what branding even is, and who have zero comprehension of customer service and client or other professional person liaison.

People who say "Google me" instead of handing our cards are clearly swimming in a stagnant pond and not an ocean.

It turned into a glorious day/evening... by the time 3pm came around the rain had stopped, the sun came out and which was blinding and burning, and the gazebo they had for the rain to cover the bbq cooking outside, became a well-needed sunscreen!

You will probably find that it's not always because they are simply not paying the correct hourly rate but they are making these other deductions which then brings down the hourly rate and they are getting caught out.

A common one is deducting time from employees hours when they travel between sites/customers and not paying them for it. Seen this loads on forums from employees complaining about it. Care workers often get this deducted too. I know someone who took 15 mins to do a typical drive from one house to the next, a time that cannot be argued when driving at the max speed limit and on a good day with no traffic hold ups such as school runs, etc. Yet they stated they needed to do it in 10 minutes and would therefore not get paid for the other 5 minutes. Add this up x ex trips and then x by all employees, and it soon adds up. Greedy employers.
