So did Shrien Dewani do it? Do we care?

After yesterdays surprise court decision to drop the murder case against Shrien Dewani, the news networks and TV are alive with pundit speculation and amateur sloothing. (is that a real word?)

But watching the telly, it does all seem very odd. So it appears he is bi-sexual, not a crime, but must have been odd for his new wife to accept. The convicted murderers all pointed to Dewani as the bloke who had hired them, and what were such a wealthy couple doing in a notorious ropey part of town, whilst on honeymoon?

Then there is previous claims of insanity and fighting the extradition to South Africa. But now he flies home first class.

But then again so what?

He has been cleared in a court of law, regardless of anyone thinks of the outcome, so shouldn't he be allowed now to rebuild his life in private and outside the media circus?

Or how long before the Hollywood film comes out?

There's a programme on tomorrow night about that guy who was accused of murdering that girl in Bristol 4 years ago, think is name was Ian Jefferies. Anyway, though that was a lot shorter process as he didn't claim a mental illness which is what dragged it out for 4 years, but it goes to show that, depending how you are shown it from the media's point of view, of how people can quickly be made to jump to a conclusion then thereafter, it's pretty hard to change that mindset. Everyone has only been fed one set of information and it's been largely one sided yet never until now as anyone bleated on about how their stories never tied up to facts, etc. Though fair do's, that's perhaps never been made quite so clear as it has been this week but none the less, the media requires a sensational output so its more exciting to point out a potential killer than to point out a potential victim. Personally I feel that the media should only be allowed to name people publicly until found guilty after a judgement. By the time many people are found innocent their lives are ruined by the media.

Many people are convicted in courts of law when they are innocent and likewise many are guilty when found innocent. Some court cases will be chucked out because it will be impossible to give the accused a fair trial. I guess its how the cookie crumbles. Would MLF allow him to advertise his business in the business directory? What about participating on the forum? After all he is innocent according to the Western Cape High Court..... But is he?

Thanks,
Barney

Very good point. In reality he is proven to have no case to answer to by a court of law (regardless of where that is) rather than being innocent. So the prosecution didn't bring enough reliable evidence in the mind of the job for a trial to go ahead.

But he is a man who is not convicted of a crime, so is it fair for him to be punished by social or commercial means?

Now how does that relate to the non legal world? If he walks into his local cornershop and wants to buy some milk, can the owner refuse to serve him?

If he walks into his Rangerover dealership, are they going to turn down £80k of his money on a new car? Unlikely.

Would we stop him from advertising on MLS? To be honest, a little marketing gremlin is sowing bad ideas in my brain, and maybe we would, just to be controversial and generate publicity? But allow him to debate his case in full on the forum

So in that scenario he'd be welcome to join. But it's interesting, would you take on a customer that could possibly cause friction or complaints from existing customers or clients? As a business owner can you refuse someones custom or patronage for no given reason?

Yes but in reality it all looks very suspicious, why did he marry her when he is gay. Footage was shown of him meeting the guys who did it, everything didn't add up and we will never know the truth and of course indizine you are right I have made up my mind but only based on the little I have seen and I would say he is guilty! Why were they in a rundown township that nobody would go to at that time of night or anytime in fact. It's her family I feel sorry for as they will never know the truth.

That's it Higgers - so many unanswered questions.

Tbh, the bit about meeting the driver the day after was news to me when I heard it. That alone would have me questioning it all.

Regardless, it's all very sad for Anni's family
