Many good replies.

Essentially, I would say "Blog if:-

1) You enjoy it; or
2) You want to improve search rankings (just make sure your blogging is on the relevant topics).

Though hopefully if you want to improve search rankings you do enjoy it too otherwise you will find it a chore!

Just watch out for the grizzly bears!
........ Reduce retirement age to 60 for men and woman. (No-one wants you after 50 anyways)....

The problem is what can be done that is affordable? I would have a wishlist but many are not affordable...

........Introduce a law to ban fuel stations (and anyone else) advertising anything in nine tenths of a penny. 122.9 for fuel would be 123.

Lose the penny.

I was always told in my youth, "Look after the pennies and and the pounds will look after themselves" so on that basis, if I lose the penny I'll lose the pound!!

I'm not too knowledgable in this area but have you thought about self-publishing? There's various sites that provide these services, such as createspace and Lulu.

The key to a lot of good book sales seems to be both marketing (inc. word of mouth) and good reviews. So I wish you well with your endeavours!
Big News! 30th April 2010 5:07 PM
.... but I know a lot of you have done this weddingy thing, if you could pass on one bit of advice, what would it be?

(First person to say "don't" will have points deducted for lack of originality.)

Do.

...Work out your budget, then factor in another 25% for all the things you havent thought of.

But most important one is when it comes to the big day, make sure you enjoy every last minute of it as it will fly by! 12 months worth of planning gone in a flash...

True on both accounts!

Congrats!!

Hi Kip, I'm getting this on the link when I click it:

The requested URL /2009/11/03/google-wave-tutorial-2/ was not found on this server.......

Ditto.
Also, whilst you're reading this Kip, you may want to rethink the wording for those members not logged in to Plugged.it who get the following message when they click on a profile.

An Error Has Occurred

It's not really an error as such? If people are new to the site and just browsing then different wording may be more appropriate...

Whoops, you need to be logged in to view this page. Click here to login or if you don't have an account, you can sign up here!

Just a thought... my 2 cents worth. Now I better go and sign up!!

Hi Beverley

First, do your reseach. What do you offer that others don't?

What would be your keywords. I just took a quick look fancy dress for large people - Google Search (sorry for using the word large, if I was searching I wouldn't think to use the term plus size and presume the average person looking for these wouldn't either?

It's certainly a competitive market. You need to make sure you offer something unique?

Check your analytics results, see what's driving people to your site.
Adwords is good because you can set your budget and tinker with the keywords and monitor the results.

Consider press releases?

That's my couple of cents worth - good luck!

Job Hoppers Are Better Employees? 26th April 2010 9:43 PM
Bedlam,

I've removed your link, Steve advised you of the process earlier this month.

In regards to job-hoppers I think the answer would also depend on what industry these people are in.

Some occupations take a while to train people so whilst the enthusiasm may be there there could still be the lack of skills. It could prove costly to keep training people.

It all comes down to the individual, some are naturally more motivated than others but I can see how some people could become stagnant if stuck in the same job and not enjoying it.

What are your thoughts on this?
.......I have for the benefit of the thread check my dmoz listing and to my surprise it's been accepted.

However I should point out that I have currently running two websites for the same keywords ( tut tut) however the none dmoz listed one is doing better in rankings.

Well that brings us back round to the fact that a directory listing is not the be all and end all as discussed in http://www.mylocalforums.com/seo-webrankings-google-yahoo-bing-etc/757-so-who-lists-dmoz-odp-open-directory-project.html#post3780

My motto would be it can do no harm to submit :-)
