Google hammers exact match domain owners! 30th December 2012 11:55 PM
Oh dear, Google recently decided to target exact match domains, as these are deemed to be low quality (which a lot are).

Unfortunately it looks like there has been a fair bit of collateral damage again, looking at some of the feedback on Search Engine Land.

If you don't know, an exact match domain is simply a domain name that exactly relates to the product or service you sell. eg pens.com

Traditionally it has been quite an easy way to rank high in Google for a keyword if you have it in your URL. This has led to lots of throw away adsense sites just cashing in on some easy traffic, and Googles attempting to remove these from it's index.

But it looks like it's implementation has been a bit heavy handed... again..

You can see more on the story at Search Engine Land.

So has anybody been affected yet by this?

Thats why i stuck to the domain Ultramate.co.uk none related name to roofing, i also own the domains leadroofer.co.uk and emergencyroofer.co.uk but heard through the grape vine a few years back that google was about to swing the axe.
Some people have no idea what constitutes a good website, or what general web standards are, the average business owner, especially smaller ones, didn't grow up with the web and doesn't understand it so it takes for a good salesman to explain the benefits of paying
State of the Uk plumbing industry 30th December 2012 10:31 PM
Here's a bit of an eye opener into the state of the UK's plumbing industry and this will be the same for all tradesmen across the country, fortunately 6 million people live in London so I do ok, but it is tough out there.... Not so busy plumbers I can see house repossessions starting to rise soon...

Hi Barney

I’ve been a roofing for over 25 years working mainly in London, fortunately nothing’s really changed for us recession wise, if you have a leaking roof you have to have it fixed, i would of thought that would apply to plumbing say you had a burst pipe or leaking tap ?

Thanks

Commercial Leases 30th December 2012 10:07 PM
Hi all, I thought I'd just write a little mank about the importance of getting your business lease checked over by a legal professional before signing!

As a business start up I was trying to do everything on the cheap, now first thing I needed was some business premises, so I found them, a little out of town but cheap rent! So I contacted the landlord and struck a 5 year deal with a 2 year break out clause. Now one thing I wanted to do was get it looked over by a solicitor, but due to money constraints I decided to bypass that idea and spend the money on stock & shop fitting instead!!

So blindly I signed the lease and everything was ok! I then start getting a leaky roof in early November/December after numerous answer phone messages for the management company asking for someone to contact me as I have a leak, i received no response, so I decided to withhold their rent and left an answer phone message stating this until someone got off their butts and gave me a call!! They did call after a week or so, and told me they would send a roofer to look at it! The roofer turned up and said he thinks he remembers the place from a good 5 years ago and told me he quoted for a replacement roof! But has since had a major computer crash so he most probably won't be able to find the quote!

I then get a call from the landlord asking why I was withholding his rent, and stated quite correctly he could start eviction proceedings because of this, also that my lease......... and this was the important part of the story left me legally bound to repair the roof and anything else that went wrong myself!!!

Now I thought yeah yeah he's trying it on and decided to give the FSB free legal line a call to double check! The long and short of it, is that I was told to pay the rent straight away as he was entitled to boot me out for withholding his rent!

Also the solicitor stated that Commercial Leases weren't regulated properly and basically the landlord can slip anything they liked into them!

So I also told the solicitor about the roof needing replacement 5 years ago and she said it didn't matter even if I had proof, and the best thing I could do if it really needed doing, was to try and do a deal with the landlord and take the hit!

So the morale of this story is that if you decide to take up a commercial lease just spend that

It always surprises me that many people such as accountants, consultants, qualified trades and other professionals, that are not selling a cheap service, yet use a cheap website.

You listen to some of them, or read their forum posts, when they whine about people who try to do their own accounts or build their own extension, etc, and complain about people using cheap materials, DIY'ing it, yet when it comes to a website, they're the first in the Vistaprint queue!

They sell their services at

Getting Top SEO Rankings 30th December 2012 6:41 PM
I have been promoting a few websites now for a little while. I would like to take a little time here and discuss getting top SEO rankings. While I have spent a tremendous amount of time in directories and forums, it is still a slow process at times. I want to open this up for all of us to discuss what has brought your website top SEO without spending a fortune? Is it even possible?

Most of my money is spent on article writing, i hire a couple of good journalist and we rank top on first page on Google for every area in North and North west London

My advice would be to find a couple of good writers and have your site packed of useful information in your field, we don
