I agree on the dip , views are down quite a bit as are sales ,but still plodding along .. I've done it now ?? so hope by the time the Christmas rush is on I'll be back to normal or as normal as I can be ...Taken a long time but am nearing the 1000th sale and hoping against hope it should happen this year”

Ooooooh well done! That's good going Andy! Congratulations, well congratulations soon anyway.

Agree that it can be confusing when switching to HTTPS results in traffic (and therefore probably also sales) going down. But I've read that this is a common short-term consequence and it should recover.”

It doesn't have to if you do it right, as i said in my earlier post:

...Basically you don't want to redirect your http website to your https one until Google has re-indexed all of your webpages as https, which is why I give the 6 month rule of thumb. This ensures any rankings you have (and therefore web traffic) is unaffected...

If you plan it well in advance and run HTTP & HTTPS in tandem then you won't see any drops or have any risk. Planning is critical. Those that have see drops in traffic have normally cut over too early or not planned or configured their sites correctly.

We discussed this matter at a SEO workshop recently. We were advised in the workshop that https will encourage fewer people to avoid the site due to potential security issues. However (and an important point to remember it seems), if you do make the change, remember to change all of your links!!! 4 people in the workshop had forgotten to do this and wondered why there was a sudden drop in traffic!
