As a new business myself, I find networking one of the best to get out there and make contact with prospects. As a online marketer there is usually some-one with a stand/table pedaling their services but I make a beeline for them and have actually picked up a bit of work from what should be my competitor.

I am also running a small and fairly regional PPC campaign on Google which is so far proving successful in the number of enquires I have received and quotes I have given out. None have given me the "fruit of the money tree" as yet but I have only been running it for just over 2 weeks. my average quote to sign off is around 4 weeks so still time.

Both networking and PPC are great for an immediate impact - but make sure you leave time for the all important SEO work that will need to be done too.

I have the same problem trying to build links is difficult. I use google adwords but fear that sometimes local competitors hit on it to use up my daily budget. I have a relocation business for the Edinburgh and surrounding areas and any advice on good sites to link to would be much appreciated.

The flyer issue is a common one, if you send 20k of flyers you will normally see a return that more than covers the cost, a few here and there can neg you out and give you false stats, with 65 million plus in this country, do not measure your demograph by a few hundred!

links will come naturally as your business grows, get a blog backend site (such as wordpress) and keep posting relevant news and articles, and if they are of a good standard, other sites will link to yours.

There is no secret formula, just do what the experts advise and good things happen, it is not rocket science!

The type of business you do could lend itself to a feature in your regional / local media. We're in the silly season now when journalists are desperate for space-fillers (especially space-fillers providing scope for pretty pictures - eg happy hedgehogs, dragonflies, before and after gardenscapes, etc).

You could also offer your services as a columnist (the ecological garden through the year; is there anything ecological that kills off lily beetles, etc). Insist on the media publishing your web site and company details along with each article. Keep the clippings and use them online and in your printed marketing blurb.

Are you the next Alan Titmarsh????
